KARACHI: In a bid to restore Karachi’s Gujjar Nullah to its original shape, the Karachi Metropolitan Corporation’s (KMC) anti-encroachment operation to clear illegal structures on the banks of the stormwater drain to continue on the second day.

The operation is being conducted from Nullah Stop Zero Point, New Karachi to North Karachi. Illegal structures falling under the limits of 30 feet of the Gujjar nullah are being razed.

Earlier, Karachi Central’s deputy commissioner wrote letters to the anti-encroachment cell, police, rangers, officials of SSGC and K-Electric in this regard. The deputy commissioner also sought heavy machinery and security for the grand operation.

Sources said that the original breadth of Gujjar Nala was 210 feet and it would be restored to its original design.

Earlier, the administration had launched ans anti-encroachment drive on the outskirts of Karachi and pulled down dozens of farmhouses reportedly owned by PTI leader Haleem Adil Shaikh, who termed the action as a “personal attack” for his “outspoken and fearless” campaign against the alleged corruption of the PPP.

You mean your "Gareeb Awam" who have the money to Pay bribes, to illegally occupy Government/private lands, buy cement and steel and build 3 or 4 story homes plus run a business out of it are being screwed for their good deeds?

They knew full well that they are encroaching. And if it was just some empty piece of land it may have been regularized but choking one of the main storm water drain and drowning the whole city will not be tolerated. No gharib awam card. Sorry.

The point is that those who allowed people to encroach this land while they are managing the city, shouldn’t they be punished by Supreme Court? Were they doing their job?
It’s not just this land, what about rest of the 90% encroach land?

Where should these poor people go?
Where is the justices? Where is Medina’s riasat? Should they take poison and commit suicide?
They are the Dalit of our society that no one is willing to help.

Medina ki riasat’s hopeful is 2 years in the game. But if you to put it in his account what happened in the years before him, be my guest. But these encroachments should and will be demolished and the city will not flood like it did for many past years. You are more then welcomed to raise fund for them.

I wonder why it took a natural disaster for them to wake up. Karachiites voted for PTI because we have never had any hope with the PPP led Sindh government. Stupidly enough PTI wasted two years hoping that PPP would do some work for the public. How naive can one get?


Or maybe the boys stopped PTI from interfering because otherwise their financier Zardari would have stopped funding. Ask yourself why every major Sindh government contract goes to FWO and the end product is beyond pathetic.
