FIRST LOOK: Maiden flight of the India's 2nd Indigenous AEW&C

When is the complete system expected to enter IAF service? How does it compare with the AEW&Cs of our neighbours (the swedish and the chinese ones)? Or is it too early to say?

From what we heared so far, the DRDO system is comparable to the older Erieye system in regard to range or detection angle of the arrays, while the system that PAFs Erieye has is a bit better. The overall package of aircraft and sensors is better though, satcom and latest avionics capabilities , mid air refuelling to extend range and endurance, speed and ceilling advantages.
When inducted it will be a good addition to the more capable A50 Phalcons and a good choice for INs shore bases AWACS requirement.

Hmmm the interesting information about the radar is it can scan 120 degrees either side which means it suffer blind spot of 60 Degree in front and back ? Any additional array planted in front and back of aircraft to cover these blind spots?

dont think so. but i a sure drdo once finished with this will immediately start on the nxt better version. this is not the best awacs in the world, so drdo has to build more of them. but the good thing is its 100% indegeneous and a massive achievement in field of AESA radar and we can build like huge number of them 20-25 are expected.

No, there are aims of building a new version with dome and 360° coverage, but possibly on a different platform. For now this will be the addition to the more capable A50 Phalcons.
