7月10日，《解放军报》在第二版要闻刊登了《只争朝夕，铁甲劲旅插上信息化翅膀——第76集团军某旅新质作战能力驶入快车道》文章，报道西部战区陆军第76集团军某合成旅，2013年开始改制换装，成为全军重点建设的信息化拳头部队，实现了部队战斗力的涅槃重生。从报道可以看出，这个旅是本轮军改后第一个公开亮相、并实现战斗力的新型信息化重型合成旅。
According to Liberation Army News, 76 Army Group has formed a new Brigade Combat Team (BCT). This new brigade has been accepting new equipment since 2013. It is the first public BCT in China.

Since April 2017, 18 Army Groups has been reorganized into 13 Army Groups with new designations. The 76 Army Group came from the 21 Army Group. The unit is based along the corridor leading to Xinjiang. The Army Group is heavily mechanized, its 61 Division is one the few in the PLA that has 6 heavy Mechanized regiments.

Last year, it made a 700 KM journey to the plateau to become China's main force for Central and South Asia. After several upgrades, it has the latest in Chinese military hardware and took the shortest time to become a BCT. It's combat prowess is not matched by anyone between Lanzhou China to Istanbul.

Since 2016, the brigade has received a massive amount of new equipment. 99A MBT, 04A IFV, 05A 155mm Self Propelled Howitzer, PLZ07 122mm Self Propelled Artillery, PGZ07 35mm self propelled anti aircraft gun, HJ10 multipurpose missiles, HQ17 Surface to Air missile. These are used to create new information combined brigade. The level of sophistication in equipment is no less than an American BCT.
