The Finnish Reservists are getting a new rifle. The rifle is a semi-automatic AK-clone made by Dasan Machineries of South Korea. The design of the MPK rifle is made to resemble the Rk series (rynnäkkökivääri or “assault rifle”) of rifles.

The National Defence Training Association of Finland, established in 1993. The purpose of the MPK association is to promote national defense through training, publicity, and education. The association has both local and regional units and organizes military training and training contributing to military capability as part of voluntary national defense.

They also “train and educate citizens to be prepared for and to survive dangerous situations in everyday life and under exceptional conditions. With this training, we improve and support the readiness of the Finnish Defence Forces and other authorities under normal and exceptional conditions.“(Source)

The path to chose this rifle was a public tender to start with. None of the domestic producers submitted any bids, most likely due to the target price set by MPK.

Below: The new Finnish MPK rifle, made by Dasan Machineries from South Korea. The action is semi-automatic. The rear sights have been specifically ordered to be similar to the assault rifles used by the Defense Forces.

Specifications of the Finnish MPK-rifle:

Manufactured by Dasan Machineries South Korea
Caliber: 7.62 x 39 mm (muzzle velocity 720 m/s)
Weight (without magazine): 3.1 kg
Weight (with magazine): 3.4 kg
Length: 895 mm (the firearm has a telescopic folding stock)
Option for an accessory rail to which accessories such as a red dot sight or lights can be attached.

The rifles will be checked and delivered to the various MPK districts during the summer. One of the benefits of the new rifle is that everyone in the organization will be using the same type of rifle, instead of their own.

Also, the Finnish Defence Forces just posted a video about Battlefield 2020, with a lot of action.

Fins have their own excellent Valmuts. Why are they importing?

.
@PanzerKiel thought you may find this interesting. Basically an AK-47 semi-automatic for the Finnish conscripts.

Seems most suitable for your concept of conscripts

Since it's is semi automatic so...
Less wastage of ammo in the hands of less experienced
More accuracy
Less wear and tear on the barrel

IS there a practical utility of fully automatic in a conventional battlefield?

Alot.....

for a rifle
Fully automatic fire, though inaccurate, pours out a heavy amount of firepower.... Once you are assaulting enemy trenches or you suddenly come on a group of enemy soldiers in front of you, automatic rifle fire can play havoc...

For a machine gun.....
Ideal for denying an area to enemy soldiers.... Moreover, limited utility against slow moving helicopters, drones and fighter aircraft.

There have been historical instances when a single, well sited machine gun was able to pin down a whole battalion.

Yes machinegun's utility is obvious as it is stabilized by a bipod or a tripod. MG is a powerful area denial and surpression tool ever since WW1.

My question was about rifle in auto fire as it uses up mag too quickly and is inaccurate.

That was what I wanted to know...

My mind was thinking about the good old battle rifle vs assault rifle debate.

On second thought, perhaps my national draft idea can have full auto capability. So the basic Type-56-I would do. Or even the Type-81.

I need that dust cover with rear sight from this korean ak for my arsenal ( Bulgarian )AK.
I currently do have Trijicon MRO red dot above the gas block. Will need
to move it back tho to balance the added weight and keep accuracy.

Bro, get PSO sight for your AK that is specialized for 7.62. It is expensive, but is on par with milspec optics like ACOGs for a fraction of the price. When I turn 18 I plan to get an SKS and put this sight on.

what i have right now is mounted on the gas block.I ll maybe just have ethe scope mount installed over the dust cover.I really hate to drill holes in my milled receiver ak.I paid 1400
with tax included for mine like 2 months ago. Arsenal AK's are the top of the line.
I ve actually assembelled a .223 wylde chamber AR 12 inch barrel pistol.

I see, maybe if you get a WASR-10 you can get a POSP scope. Top of the line for long range shots.

Yeah, America can't produce good AK-47s and Romanian WASR is only mediocre. But as I was saying if you buy a Wasr pick up that scope i showed you and mount it because you won't lose much if reciever has holes. You won't regret the ability to hit targets far away quite accurately.

What handgun you have?
