Finally, Indian Govt Clears $2.4-bil Mirage Upgrade Deal

I think we should recheck whether upgradation is to be done or not after evaluating the two aircrafts that will be upgraded at france.
What you say friends?

I dnt understand why IAF want this deal we brought Mirage in 1985 onward, standard a/c life is around 40 yr. so from this point these plane already 20-25 yr old. upgradation will take 5-6yr it mean they only have 10 yr remain life. It is better to add more f/a in mmrca which is more suitable.

Because it's a good and capable bridge to the next generation of fighters!

The oldest M2K was bought it 1986, lets say it will be upgraded in 2013, for another 10 to 13 years of service, means it could be replaced by FGFA, or even AMCA by then. Adding any of the MMRCAs instead, would mean IAF have to use it for 30 to 40 years. So if we take the same 2013 as the induction year, until 2043, or 53 and that although we already will have 5th gen fighters and UCAVs by then.
That's why the upgrade is very logical, but as I said, I still would prefer the replacement with Rafales in fast production form France, because of the falling squad numbers and to maintain an technological edge over our possible opponents in the short term!

so this upgraded (new combat aircraft) will serve how many years???
and whole process will take 9 years...:drag:

although if purchased new,we can get those french rafales in 3-4 years..

foolish step by govt..

Guys
We had an ongoing M2K thread. You should have posted this news there. It would have meant complete information about the plane in one place.MODS can we merge the 2 threads please.

This is another one of mindless deals.Wonder how much dollars went into MADAM's account...

The Indian cabinet has cleared a US$2.4 billion proposal by the French company Dassault for upgrading India’s Mirage 2000 aircraft with beyond visual range missiles, navigation, communications and electronic warfare equipment.

The clearance came on Wednesday at a meeting of India’s supreme defence policy-making body, the Cabinet Committee on Security (CCS) which is chaired by the Prime Minister, Dr. Manmohan Singh. The news of the clearance was revealed by official Indian sources.

The upgrade will make the two-decade old planes nearly as potent as the Rafale and Eurofighter which are competing in a tender to provide Indian $10 billion worth of warplanes to replace several types of Russian origin warplanes.

The upgrade will be carried out at by Dassault in France for the first few planes while the bulk of the two squadron strong fleet will be upgraded at India’s Hindustan Aeronautics Limited in Bangalore.

The cost of the upgrade may work out to $7.9 million per aircraft, with the French firm, Thales being the lead integrator and missile manufacturer, MBDA will be the missile systems supplier. The weapons include over 400 MICA interception and aerial combat missiles for beyond visual range firing.

The upgrade is to be performed over a period of nine years.
