Jammu, Jan 17 (PTI) A fierce gunbattle broke out between security forces and a group of militants in Poonch district today in which a Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) militant was killed, police said.

The slain LeT militant was from Pakistan, a police spokesman said, adding that his identity was yet to be established.

Acting on a tip-off, security forces launched a cordon and search operation in Nadola area of Poonch district this morning. Some militants, who were hiding there, fired at the army personnel, forcing them to retaliate. In the exchange of fire, one militant was shot dead, the spokesman said.

"Two to three militants are still trapped at the site of encounter which is is still on," he said, adding one AK rifle, three AK magazines, one radio set and a mobile were also recovered

Life would have been so good if we only ENJOYED stuff from each other's countries.. But one can always dream...

I think what they meant was the identity in terms of name , address, affiliation etc of the terrorist. location is assumed Pakistan till proven other wise (kidding);)

Yes Brother, seriously we should enjoy such news coming in from the other side of the border but so much hate has been injected into the masses of both countries by their corrupt politicians for their personal gains that we forget after all we are both humans and have so much in common between us.
I really wish for both the countries to spend money for the welfare of the people, for education, health facilities and basic amenities of life rather then Agnis, shaheens, LCA and JF-17.

Its simply amazing that years have gone on and we are to believe that the trouble is only because of people from Pakistan. If there is no local support and hosting of these elements, there is no way they can find the time and refuge to plan and launch these attacks.

So before you dump everything on Pakistan out of habit, realize this basic tenant of insurgency. This insurgency started in 1988. It is still going on. Kashmiris support these folks but at the same time do not outright say so. The flame is still burning..regardless of people coming from Pakistan.

Had it been an indigenous struggle, why would the divine (dus = ek) raiders be arrested by these very Kashmiri people in 65? This insurgency is a proxy war that was initiated by Pakistan and at that time even the US looked away as the bed was warm on the Afganistan experience.

After 1971 fiasco in which Pakistan shot itself in the foot by thinking that violence can be a solution in Bangladesh, there has been an itch in the supremist sort ideology of the Pakistani Army to foment trouble in India with an intention to undermine the integrity of India. First there was an attempt in exploiting the fluid situation in Punjab and after the USSR debacle in Afganistan the same mujahiddin were sent to Kashmir to foment violence and trouble.

Over the years, Pakistan has taken a lot of pride in the actions of these terrorists and in fact there was an attempt to glorify the matter with Kargil which is another Quixotic tale, I think best left for another discussion.

However over the years, as Pakistan has been exposed as the modern institution where occured the reniassance of current day terrorism, particularly since 26/11, the zeal with which the Pakistan establishment cheered for these terrorists has been ebbing. But clearly not finished yet.....
