Few past facts about PA tank purchases

HIT started with T-series Tank Rebuild factory. These T series were Chinese Tanks but from Russian Origin. Then the M series Rebuild Factory started with older M-48 Tanks.

I mentioned Leclerc, Leopard 2 because an advanced European tank would have helped in technological progress of the factories much faster, in the absence of Abrams. Lets hope for the best regarding AK-II.

Lots of tank never seen anywhere in Pak inventory.

1. M1A1 Abrams had failed the desert trials it was rejected. Zia never favored the US tank

2. Gen Asif Nawaz was favoring the M84 tank that had performed marvelously during Army trials and was declared the best. T-72 was never on the cards.

3. T-80UD deal made Gen Jehangir Karamat, Col (r) Mahmood and ex PPP Senator Asif rich beyond their wildest dreams on kickbacks. That is why T-80UD was favored over M84. This is the reason Gen Jehangir Karamat resigned when he was shown the files of his money transfers by than PM NS during a meeting.

A lot of conjcecture as you have rightly pointed out. Zia was never interested in M1 but it was used to drag him out of his secured compound for the attack.
I still remain confused as to whether Asif nawaz died of natural causes or was done away. We dont have any evidence to the contrary.

Whoever chose the t-80ud, regardless of the covert reasons, chose the best. The UDs are damn fine beasts, much better than any souped up versions of M-84s in every way.

We got the best t-80U variant with the new welded turret, FCS, optics and armor. Note that unlike its Russian counterpart, Pakistani UDs never carried the IR searchlights as they had IR sights from the word go.

Why doesn't Pakistan invest into Anti-Tank missiles such as Spike or Javelin?. We have more chances of producing a sophisticated Anti-tank missile with the purpose of exporting it, rather than building a tank. I think best offence is the best defence, having a state of the art can make enemy tanks sitting ducks, unless they are equipped with "TROPHY".

Some say they ended like this M47, but Pakistani M48 has 5 rollers abouve the wheels, not 3, so I have only see photos of M47 AVLB version.
The M48A5 are not on any Army scrapyard, so they must be in ready reserve.

Even the current iteration of the M84 - i.e. M84 AB1 - seems to be relatively well-equipped:

Very simple---so you have tank traps with anti tank weapons---. The enemy tanks withdraw and then the area is bombarded by the enemy or---the enemy sends in gunship helicopters---the enemy drops daisy cutters---destroying all anti tank traps---what now---?
