What's new

Few Countries will be briefed on LCA-Tejas: Source

Vietnaam could be the potential buyer reason for being MIg-21 replacement, and India have good defence relationship, and HAL providing spares for her Mig-21, and helping in upgradation.

However I think the its the MK-2 which will be great product in international market reasons :

1. Active duty in Indian Airforce which is forth largest airforce in the world.
2. F-414IN Engine with 10% more thrust that F-414 engine with TVC, whose TVC nossle is available from US and European thus removing the AOA limit and increase STR.
3. Trainer and Naval variant available.
4. MK-1 was not designed for the mass production but MK-2 will be, which could be produced very fast with the subsystems manufactured by Pvt companies like TATA, Mahindra, Godrej efficiently.
5. UTTAM, ASTRA 1/2, Sudarshan LGB will be available till then giving the choise of the customer to choose either Indian (Uttam, Astra 1/2), Russian (Zhuk, R-77, R73), Israeli (2032/2052, python/derby) or european (Raven) choices.

OK let look at Vietnam as a buyer. What are their needs and does the LCA fill thoes needs?

1. Vietnam is a large country geographically north to south with a large maritime coast line and islands in the South China Sea.
2. Vietnam has a fast growing economy and well funded defence budget that will increase with time. They do have the budget to buy the LCA.....but......

So being large and with a massive maritime area to protect, does a point defence fighter seem the best option? Why do you think Vietnam has concentrated on long range twin engine SUs?

Sorry but the LCA does not really fit the current needs for Vietnam, they need long range fighters to engage far out into the South China Sea....hence why they bought the SUs. (Air launched brahmos would be far easier to sell to Vietnam).

OK lets see how much your argument weigh

1. Vietnam is not a large country like China or India, and already have Su30MK flanker's long leg for such marritime role.

2. Vietnam don't have the plan to deep strike China, and would like to use LCA Tejas for the interceptor and CAS and point defence which do not required long range but with the aerial refueling capablity its range could be increased considerably.

3. India used its MKI and MIg-21 combo very effectively and now the same will be done with the MKI and Tejas Combo with the bigger flanker providing Radar illumination to the Tejas keeping its Radar in silent mode so together with low RCS, close the gap with the target and at the right moment switch on the FCR MMR, fire BVR and turn back.

4. SU 30 have the Buddy Buddy refueling capability, which could refuel the LCA Tejas on the air.

5. Vietnaam do like the modern weapon with the western tech.

6. Vietnam would look at the country who is preparing its defence equipment in response to Chinese PLAAF, and with good relationship with the US, the engine issue won't arise.

7. Vietnam uses Russian amunition, which will be also qualify for the LCA like KH-31 ASHM, R-73, R-77, KAB 1000, KAB 500 and also Indian Astra-2 looks promissing with budy buddy fire and control features.

@Bratva Sir, what is the turn around time for the JF-17.

Compared by you of course
Topic is tejas why so defensive?

Defensive? You said it didnt do justice to all the foreign components it has, my explanation was what does Pakistani cares about Justice in our context.

The disappointment is yours alone cause no one with such questionable analysis and comparison will believe any thing you say.

Gulf countries are a pleasant surprise considering that almost all of them rely on US or a few like Yemen, Syria and Lebanon rely on Russia.

My guess is Oman, Bahrain and Yemen (all three are strategically very close to India). if this happens, RAFO and RBAF will have an interesting mix: Typhoon &Tejas for the former and F-16s and Tejas for the latter.

The most concerned, dedicated and forward thinking PM we ever had. Respect to him

Well .Gulf nations dont have that much trust in powerful western nations like US .
India is too close to them and GCC have very good influence and prime importance in our diplomacy .
LCA is still in a developmental stage .So dont need that much excitation .But in future if they buys from us .Then for them it has two advanatage they dont need to rely on a Superpower that they dont have any workable influence .India is very well connected to Arabs .

They have 144 Mig 21s. Shows they too look at point defence as a high priority.

Any news on Weapon trials.. BVR firing.. Suppose to happen in Jamnagar when LSP7 is back right?
And any confirmation for Singapore Air Show?

Briefing is a good development but we need to get our act together on Tejas quickly. We need our jets..

I think it was reported to be carried out in march first half... LSP7 will fire.:enjoy:

Well .Gulf nations dont have that much trust in powerful western nations like US .

Really?

Those oil sheikhdoms that you see existing there are because US exists to back them. Otherwise they are not even legitimate leaders of their own country.

US grace = legitimacy of their rule and therefore 'trust'.
India is too close to them and GCC have very good influence and prime importance in our diplomacy .

Only Bahrain and Oman have strategic closeness in terms of militarily and politically engaging with us. UAE, Saudi, Qatar and Kuwait are more like Business partners with a good business deal: strictly professional.

Besides, the latter 4 nations already have a strong air force fleet with all US/EU/French built jets.
LCA is still in a developmental stage .So dont need that much excitation .But in future if they buys from us .Then for them it has two advanatage they dont need to rely on a Superpower that they dont have any workable influence .India is very well connected to Arabs .

Without engine, we are simply re-suppliers for any country. Till GE/Eurojet/PW/Saturn etc power our jets, we cannot guarantee 100% strategic autonomy to any client.

Mig29, Mig35, JF17, GRIPEN, J10 All comes $30-$45 million a piece range. LCA Sales would gonna be more of a political thing and it's Indian influence which bring sales instead of performance.

They still need to replace those migs. India can help or they can go all russian.
The Su-30 purchase had a lot of issues including training. It was a way to switch and learn BVR and offensive operations.
They still as I've said require Mig-21 replacement.
Su-30 platforms are not exactly cost effective for peace time.

From Gripen
  1. Lower Cost As Gripen is Popping 43 Million $ Per unit
  2. Better Engine thrust
  3. Better Weapon Package in term of Price

Mig-29 M/K
  1. Lowers RCS
  2. Composite Material
  3. Low Per Unit Cost
  4. Better Engine Life Cycle Cost With GE Engine
  5. Lower Per Sortie Cost With high Fuel Efficiency
  6. Better Weapon Package in term of Price And Technology(Israel Python-5,Derby)
  7. Future AESA Upgrade With Elta 2052 or Uttam AESA
Countries which Want Combination of Affordable Fighter With Better Western Technology ME States,Africa,Saarc Counties ETC
