A young army officer or even the senior leaders can only say so much to the chief in such a setting. They can try resigning their own commission in protest but army is not a corporation where you can walk in, drop your letter of resignation and walk out.

Army is there to protect the nation.

The majority of people who are being arrested are arrested on pointless charges. Shireen Mazari was arrested first for giving an interview to CNN, and then for erecting a roadblock in....guess where....GUJRAT! She hadn't even gone to Gujrat in 2 years.

Then Fawad Ch was arrested for a water tap theft case. Can you believe it?

Finally, even under Army Act you cannot try civilians who resorted to arson to military properties.

This Army act thing is bogus....it will run out of steam in the next few months on account of the challenges it will face in the civilian courts. Every verdict passed under army act against a civilian can be challenged in the civilian courts. Here, I believe the civil judiciary will do its part to scuttle this effort as this is taking leverage away from them.
