What's new

Falklands war. The day Argenina took back Falklands from Britain.

The whole scenario is preposterous as the RAF can reinforce the Falklands with more Typhoons in just 12 hours.

There are 3 early warning radar stations on the Islands and a RN SSN is thought to always be not too far off from the region at all times, and so the Argentines would have to be suicidal to risk any of their major surface ships to attack the Falklands.

Rapier SAMs protect the airbase at Mount Pleasant and a new more capable system will come online in the next few years.

Add to this 600 or so heavily armed troops waiting for the Argentines and so the chances of any "surprise" invasion succeeding are around a big fat zero.

You forgot that these days we also have the Type 45, yes it lacks in ASW but in area denial for AA defence there is no better ship. I do wish we still had some strategic bombers like the Vulcans.
I have seen a lot of such articles/threads on Quora, started by fan boys and trolls. They don't realise that UK has gone forward and matured its technologies while Argentina has regressed.

They also forget that the first "war" is classed as a small conflict in UK militarily. If they were to try that again and sitting PM is a bit more adventurous Argentina military installations will become a charred extremely well-done steak in no time.

Yes they are very good and a single Type-45 destroyer could probably repulse any mass air-attack that the Argentine airforce can muster.
I wish that the money is found to add the 24 additional cells to increase the complement of Aster SAMs from the current 48 to 72. In a high-intensity war those SAMs could be used up quickly.

My previous post was just commenting on what the UK has immediately available and could bring to the theatre within 1-2 days as that is the timescale for any "surprise" invasion to succeed.

We will have to wait for somebody to attack something the British own. See what happens.

btw Britain DIDN'T GIVE UP Hong Kong. Britain NEVER owned Hong Kong. It was a LEASE. Britain followed the law as was written in the agreement they signed with China. Sure a lot of the imperialist crowd didn't like it but the agreement was well crafted and left no wiggle room.

Caring? If they cared the Roman/Greek/IndoEuropean R1b/R1a men wouldn't have been in Europe in the first place. But hey not like anybody else cares, either. Once China and India were safe and rich they didn't give a damn about people elsewhere. Russians take huge lands while making sure R1b can't get back into Asia. Arabs were and kind of still are slavers. Everybody is still eager to plunder Africa and push Africans in the dirt. So, not much point talking about caring.

Quit talking out of your ***. Hong Kong was never leased. It was British territory. China threatened to attack if Britain didn't give it back. So Britain gave it back without a fight.

.
. .
The lease was New Territories, not Hong Kong. Hong Kong was British territory. Hong Kong had a British territory flag. Proving Hong Kong was not leased.

The new treaty was for the EXTENSION of Hong Kong Territory, the prolonging of occupancy. Lease ran out and Hong Kong was returned.

Hong Kong was not leased. Hong Kong was British territory from 1841 until 1997 when it was returned to China after China threatened to attack if not returned.

Owners didn't and don't agree with that so it is irrelevant

I cant gaurantee the argentine army/navy can take back the Falklands... but I can certainly gaurantee Argentine airforce will gain complete dominance over the Falklands and be a threat that the British navy has never seen at the Seas since WW2 with 24 JF-17s (2- Squadrons)

British have F-35s and Typhoons which can handle the JF-17s

Ignoring Puerto Rico none of the European holdings in the third world have population greater than 300,000
Hong Kong had to go. Both China and UK used the 99 year lease to conclude a deal

The 99 year lease was not continued because China would have attacked if Britain did not give Hong Kong back to China. Opium War was shame for Chinese.

European powers have granted independence to any overseas possesion with more than 300,000 people
In fact Hong Kong was among the last to be granted independence

And then a day came when the Argentina gave it back to Britain.

Stop talking out of your ***. Reunion has population close to 1 million. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Réunion

Hong Kong was British territory. Whilst Britain can beat Argentina to retain Falklands, Britain cannot beat China to retain Hong Kong.
And then a day came when the Argentina gave it back to Britain.

And some time in the future when Britain is weak Argentina will take it back again. What's your point?

You can't compare Falklands with Hong Kong. The former is all inhabited by people of British extraction. The latter of Chinese extraction. If the population had been 3 million British origin people I can't see any UK government would have left them. You would have a war that would see USA involved to get ot back.

Want to tell me why British left St. Lucia, a country with just over 160k population? That is about the same population in block of flats in Hong Kong? Was it fear oif China?
