You can't compare Falklands with Hong Kong. The former is all inhabited by people of British extraction. The latter of Chinese extraction. If the population had been 3 million British origin people I can't see any UK government would have left them. You would have a war that would see USA involved to get ot back.
Want to tell me why British left St. Lucia, a country with just over 160k population? That is about the same population in block of flats in Hong Kong? Was it fear oif China?
Even if Hong Kong has 3 million ethnic British people so what? China would have taken the island and evicted all of them just as Russians did to Japanese when Russians took back South Sakhalin and Kuril islands from Japanese in WW2. Opium War in which China lost Hong Kong to Britain was shameful to Chinese. Even if millions of American soldiers die in Hong Kong fighting China, they can't stop China taking back Hong Kong from Britain.
