F16, F18s would have provided India unbeatable platforms

I guess that school of thoughts never kicked in when going for the C-130s, P-8, Apaches. etc. :what:

They still do not effect India's offensives decision making if the need arose but are just force multipliers. Apache deal is still pending.

BTW what is your point, after posting a news article you are busy nitpicking others ?

1. Not a chance if we want them we could have gone for it. We have chosen the best.

That is a determination not made by the IAF. The Rafale was chosen as the cheaper alternative among the technically shortlisted, the other contender being the EF. There may be other variables not disclosed to the public but it would be silly to dismiss the EF as not being the "best". Having said that, this deal is done. Unless the EF consortium offers something incredibly mouth watering (in which case what were they waiting for?), they are well & truly out of this race.

The pakistani thinks that they have F-16 and USA also have it makes them at par with USA but they forget that they have very lower and water down version and that too with kill switch.

They don't have kill-switches mate

@topic:
Although the Americans offered superb packages for both the F-16 and F-18, seems like there were too many strings attached to them and with limited ToT options.

Yes, European jets are very expensive - but it might be worth paying a bit more for favorable long term returns, even in the worst-case scenario.

Having Rafales in the air force and navy would aid in having a common platform.

And as far as the F-35 goes, yes the Americans are still trying.
U.S. again says it would provide F-35 data to India - Reuters -

Question: Wouldn't the F-35 potentially conflict with the FGFA? :what:

Albeit, one is convinced that Indian psyche revolves around Pakistan, but this claim takes the biscuit.
Unlike India, Pakistan never makes a song and dance on Indian defence purchases.[/QUOTE

These are just 3 I could find in a couple of minutes, if I could be bothered there's no doubt I could find many more. Your army's entire reason for existence is the perceived threat from India.

Since you are the third person to post the same link, hence a reply is in place.

Care to elaborate if any members here represent the Pakistani Foreign Ministry.??
When i said Pakistan doesn't makes an issue, I meant the GOP.....not the fan boys or the arm chair generals.

Let me guess, we paid them enough for not signing CISMOA and other loads of shyte. Along with enough weapons bundled with the deal. And excuse me, you forgot the javelin and C-17 deals. :P

You mean to say India could only pay once for not signing CISMOA and not again?

American fighters were rightly kicked out -

F-16
End of life airframe (virtually no more up gradation possible)

Knock Lockheed Martin out of the reckoning.

Boeing (F-18) India never sought the product. It was included under pressure from Washington.

Plus the inspection requirements!

US never had any real good product for MMRCA. F-22 is not available and F-35 had not matured in any way (it hasn't still matured).

They just hoped to bulldoze their way through by applying political pressure.

On the other hand, the french and brits had better platforms and were ready to part with way more than the Americans.

The french even openly advertise it as nuclear capable. :P

What other country, where Rafale was contending, had nuclear weapons? Duh!!!

.
Nonsense.
F18 and/or F16's are in no way unbeatable. Rafale is better than those two at just about everything that is important.
If they really wanted to provide unbeatable platforms they should have brought F22.

.
this articles just reminds me of a 2006 outlook cover . it had the f 16 and f18 on the cover , with the caption "thanks but no thanks Mr Bush".:)
