F16 ARE NO GOOD AGAINST THE US AIR FORCE

If Pakistan really wanted to, it could probably target PLAAF planes with their JF-17s. In fact, IAF could probably target Russian Su-30s with their Su-30s. Our Su-30s can probably target Russian Su-30s too, that's why the condition of sale was no Su-30s near the Sino-Russian border.

Exactly. And Saudi F-15's could kill Israeli or USA F-15's as well. People do not understand IFF, and the term "source codes" sounds cool but very few people have a clue as to what exactly these "source codes" do.

.
please can you elaborate about "source code"

or is this that kind of term "that you can tell me but than you have to kill me"

and please ignore my ignorance . . . .

Chinese and Vietnamese jets, as well as Chinese and Russian jets, have faced off before I think.

Russia and China are pretty liberal about tech transfers. Russia gave us an entire Su-27 production line and we gave Pakistan an entire JF-17 production line.

Chogy I don't believe you said that !

Fair & Unbiased
Now you see the picture, most probably those smds will not be burnt in client factory, most probably the whole package / or at least the board will be delivered as such.

Now what has been programmed IN the FPGA , or the BIOS, is some thing you will never know.

Thus the more prudent buyer will request for the "source code" of the design, and agree on royalty terms to be paid to the original holders of the trademark.

I'm think the US IFF system is far more sophisticated than the Russian and Chinese ones since US has longer experience in working with exports. Maybe all non-US aircraft can be locked on even when shown as friendlies due to unique engine returns or something because the engine is slightly different or something. I'm not sure but if it was true that US planes are NOT locked in some way, how come Turkey was working so hard to change the IFF system?

Hi,

the PAF and USAF are not gonna come to blows. And obviously PAF F16s are useless against 65% of what the USAF has in its arsenal.

in a WVR dog fight, it would be ''interesting'' to watch -- but I hope things never get to that level. Regardless of what happens, PAF will always be ready for any development.

.
well we have heard so many rumors regarding the F-16s which were mostly wrong.i fail to understand that if there are so many thigs wrong with the F-16s then why PAF is going for more F-16s n upgradation of their old F-16s in US?this question can have only 2 possible answers.either the rumors are wrong and baseless or the PAF personnel are foolish.

.
USA is tooooooooooooo genius to let any of its made weapons out of its control. That has already been demonstrated in the incident with their 6 decades old ally.

In short u can buy US weapons they also will give a unique advantage over others BUT a big BUT it will only be usable as long as theirs and yours interests do not collide after that u will probably have to fight with arrows.lol. Its a huge gamble.

.
well if they do so then why half of the world buys their weapons?if lets say PAF has to use these jets against india and they start putting up software problems then this matter will not remain under the table and the US companies e.g. LM will lose their credibility and no other country will go for their equipment in future within the exception of nato may be but there is a long list of non nato countries which have bought and are buying US weapons

UK RESEARCHERS DISCOVER BACKDOOR IN AMERICAN MILITARY CHIP

U.K.-based security researchers have found a backdoor that was “deliberately” inserted into an American military chip to help attackers gain unauthorized access and reprogram its memory, according to a draft research paper.

Sergei Skorobogatov, a researcher at Cambridge University, discovered that a military-grade silicon device made by California-based Microsemi Corp., the ProASIC3 A3P250, contained a glitch that would allow individuals to remotely tweak its functions. “This permits a new and disturbing possibility of a large scale Stuxnet-type attack via a network or the Internet on the silicon itself,” the paper suggests. The Stuxnet worm, discovered in 2010, targets industrial systems.

The backdoor was obscured within the security mechanism of the chip with robust countermeasures to prevent access by others, a likely indication that it had been deliberately implanted, said Christopher Woods, a researcher at U.K.-based Quo Vadis Labs who collaborated on the research. The duo did not disclose further details in their paper, citing a “confidentiality agreement.”

The backdoor is “close to impossible to fix on chips already deployed” because software patches can’t fix the bugs. The security holes can only be removed by replacing all such chips installed in systems, the duo noted.

Microsemi’s aggregate net sales to defense and security users represented approximately 29 percent of total net sales in 2012, according to its most recent quarterly regulatory filing. The device in question is “heavily marketed to the military and industry,” the draft report states. It was manufactured by TSMC Taiwan and packaged either in China or Korea, Woods said in an email to Nextgov.

A Microsemi spokesperson did not respond to a request for comment.

The research duo's full findings will be presented at a conference in Belgium in September, Skorobogatov said in a separate email.

Going forward, the pair will study how to authenticate chips and parts using scanning techniques that will distinguish between counterfeit and real components.
