Export bids for JF-17 Thunder Multirole Lightweight Fighter Aircraft

From receiving JF-17s to the time their Pilots and crew are self sufficient in the system, will take at least 5-8 years.

Boko Haram is a current problem. Unless PAF dispatches it's own JF squadron to show off. :P

Boko Haram has been around for a while. They may still be around 5-10 years from now. One thing I know for sure is that Nigerians would likely master JF-17 with lesser headache.

BTW your idea of PAF dispatching own aircraft is pretty interesting to say the least.

2# Myanmar
3# Azerbaijan
4# Zimbabwe
5# Turkey
6# Serbia
7# Egypt
8# Saudi Arabia
9# Sri Lanka
10# Nigeria

Did I miss anyone? Now that's a long list of failures(included Nigeria too as its just gonna follow the trend). These deals were either "in the final stages of the deal" or were "genuinely interested" or fight trials took place in the countries and lost the tender, and some in the list hilariously claimed that the deal was signed(China and Sri Lanka).

Now an even longer list of countries who were "interested" in the JF-17.

Indonesia
Bangladesh
Syria
Bolivia
Ethiopia
Morocco
Venezuela
Iran
Lebanon
Albania
Malaysia
North Korea
Sudan
Congo
#Argentina
Tanzania
Thailand
Eritrea

So much for selling like "hot cakes" which was predicted in 2003 by the PAF airchief Saadat(IIRC).

*Yawn.....*

Burnol is not that expensive in India, is it? Get some before I remind you of tall claims that were made about export potential of Tejas so many years and so many billions ago when it was only a design. At least we can talk about export because we have a functioning multi-role.

Nigeria to buy Russian fighter jets

Nigeria has reached a deal with Russian authorities as Western nations refuse to sell the country much needed weapons.

Update: 12:21, 08 December 2014 Monday

World Bulletin/News Desk

Nigeria will buy arms from Russia to compensate for western nations' refusal to sell the African country much-needed weapons.

"Nigeria has officially reached an arms deal with Russian authorities," a senior military officer told The Anadolu Agency on condition of anonymity as he was not authorized to speak to the media on the subject.

According to the officer, a high-level Nigerian delegation led by the air force chief and national security adviser travelled to Russia last week to negotiate the deal.

"Our team returned to Nigeria on Thursday after a four-day trip," he said.

"Russia has now agreed to supply us with arms," asserted the officer. "Henceforth, we are hopeful of getting arms from Russia."

Nigeria is battling a five-year insurgency by the Boko Haram militant group in the country's northeastern region, where more than 13,000 people, mostly civilians, have been killed and the local economy brought to its knees.

An emboldened Boko Haram recently stepped up its deadly attacks and seized several areas across Adamawa, Borno and Yobe – the three states worst hit by the insurgency – declaring them part of a self-styled "Islamic caliphate."

There have been complaints that Nigerian troops are using "obsolete" arms while insurgents employ sophisticated weapons.

The Nigerian military is reportedly seeking fighter jets and modern arms to tilt the balance in its favor.

"Basically, what we are buying from Russia are fighter jets," said the army officer.

"Light arms, especially guns of varying powers, can be procured from the black market; but you cannot buy fighter jets from the black market," he explained.

"A war can last many years, if not decades, if both sides rely solely on light arms, which you can get from the black market. In modern warfare, you need air power to establish superiority," said the officer.

Nigerian defense spokesman Chris Olukolade did not respond to AA's requests for comment.

Boko Haram, which first emerged in the early 2000s preaching against government misrule and corruption, became violent after the death of its leader in 2009 while in police custody.

The notorious group has been officially outlawed in Nigeria, Turkey and the United States.

Old allies

Nigeria turned to Russia after failing for months to convince western countries, especially the U.S., to supply it with arms.

"We had to turn to Russia for arms since the U.S. refuses to sell us arms anymore," the senior military officer told AA.

"No country will be allowed to hold us for ransom," he said.

In a recent interview with AA, Nigerian presidential spokesman Reuben Abati said his country was ready to seal a counterinsurgency cooperation deal with any country willing to help its battle against Boko Haram.

It is not the first time Russia and Nigeria have had a defense arrangement.

The now-defunct Soviet Union had supplied arms to Nigeria during the country's 30-month civil war with renegade Biafra soldiers.

Most western nations sat on the fence during the conflict.

The U.S. a few days ago announced it was discontinuing training for the Nigerian military, a decision Washington said had come at Nigeria's request.

The U.S. described the Nigerian decision as "regrettable."

Nigeria-U.S. relations have foundered recently following American criticisms of Nigeria's handling of the ongoing Boko Haram insurgency.

U.S. Ambassador to Nigeria James Entwistle exacerbated the problem three months ago when he publicly said his country would not sell arms to Nigeria due to fears of human rights abuses by the country's security agencies.

Tempers flared again in November when a top Nigerian envoy to the U.S. brazenly accused Washington of sabotaging Nigeria's counterinsurgency efforts by refusing to sell it much-needed arms.

U never know , what they ll buy.

But report says fighter from Russia but without telling what fighter,
probably yak trainer / light fighter that Bangladesh bought.

It ll be interesting what fighter won over JF 17

I think probably 1 billion $ loan, where jf17 may have lost..

.
A few things that will break down the internet:
1-Queen Elizabeth stepping down
2-Leonardo dicaprio winning an Oscar
3-Malaysian Airlines losing another B777 before the end of this year
4- JF-17 securing export orders

Also, if JF-17 secures foreign order, expect the Indian Health Care system to break down as well.

:lol::lol::omghaha:

Somethings not right It was just a sign left to do the order for jf17. I think jf17 deal is finalised the russian jets they are buying are few flankers has nothing to do with this jf17 deal.

u think they are buying 2 types of jet simultaneously?

So which Russian aircraft they select???

There was a news that Nigeria is looking for US aircraft for CAS role but that is not available. The US also refused to sell them the F-16's. JF-17 is also not available unless PAF sends some of its aircraft to Nigeria on lease. Same is the case with F7's.

Currently what Nigeria has is not sufficient.

Now it leaves Nigeria with only one option.
Russia produces the YAK-130 which can be available immediately.

.
The JF-17, with all the promised goodies is a good fighter. However at $25m a piece, and Russia offering the M2 at $30m, and likely better financial terms, the FC-1 is hard pressed.

I still think the Chinese would rather selling the L-15 and/or J-10 than the Fc-1.

I could be wrong.

What is the cost of a Block 2 Jf-17?

.
A good soft loan by Russia could be the main factor, Russia is also known for good barter trades, in this case could be oil barter underhand.

We have already ruined our marketing strategy at the start by declaring real price of $15 million in every air show and world markets, now asking cost for $25 million is like staggering the customer who knows what cost's you. Although no match for this capability is available world wide.
Adding MIL-STD-1760 computers, IFR probe and few new gadgets wont add much price diff in blk 2. Now our Air force realized to fetch the real price for it , but no use.
Any way still countries like Argentina who have very few options in world due to British pressure are potential customers for JF-17. This is the beginning of first real sales trial for PAF. Along way to go ahead upwards

@salman-1

selling jf 17 in troubled region is difficult for you..

because 3 vendors are involved,

two partners are big countries, who can offer their products in terms that will win contract.

if jf 17 has to be sold, you have to make an offer that cannot be refused, in monetary wise (impossible) or strategic wise.

after all that, if you win the contract, china & russia will eat away atleast 2/3 of its value..

such is the fate..

but more the number of fighters made, it has its own advantages like lesser cost, more types, more weapons integration etc
