Had the rants of such buttboys been listened to, we wouldn't have been in the current sorry state of affairs. The problem of Pakistani public and establishment is that they even consider themselves as self-righteous even in their wrongdoings. The state's blind eye and tacit support of private Jihadist is responsible for a bad name in Afghanistan and the weakening of Kashmir cause. We ourselves are the creators of the bizzar world we live in.

I am no fan of the policy of supporting militants in Afghanistan and Kashmir but neither I am a fan of an American stooge probably making bank by criticizing Pakistan. If he truly was angry about the army's support for militant organizations, I'm sure he'd be happy to also voice opposition towards the US and its current policy.

A point to be considered is that in a state that is already based on religion, a religious party means an absolutely fundamentalist reading of religion, a certain amount of religious orientation is already accepted as being part of the new centre.. Parties like the BJP in India & the Republicans in U.S. also have religious leanings but the constitution of the countries force them to not drift too far.

A good family friend from Mansera has a relative in the ISI who said that we had no idea OBL was there.

Even if the ISI was involved, it follows reason to assume that only the absolute minimum would have known about it. Unlikely that the rest of the ISI would have known about it. Cannot deduce anything directly from that person's lack of knowledge, plausible deniability necessity probably meant that even very senior officials might not have known.

I do not require multiple attempts at reading to understand a post. My post is still valid, I merely want to know who negotiated the deal and why we got the brunt end of it.

He said it in his own capacity as a civilian who has been out of the service since 13 years. He could be right or he could be wrong. He himself said these were opinions of his. There's always more to a story than what meets the eye. The Americans were always more irked about this whole haqqani 'network' thing. Post OBL - western media had a field day but the US govt. remained quite tight lipped (though they kept changing their story regarding Pak's role)

The United States on Friday said the statement by the former ISI chief Lt General (r) Asad Durrani that Pakistan’s powerful spy agency “most likely sheltered” Osama bin Laden is incorrect.

State Department spokesperson Jen Psaki insisted during her press briefing that there is no reason to believe that the Pakistani government knew about the whereabouts of the Osama bin Laden.

“As we’ve stated in the past, and the President and Secretary (Hillary) Clinton at the time stated, we don’t have any reason to believe that the government of Pakistan knew about the location of bin Laden. That remains our belief,” Psaki said.

“Correct”, Psaki said when asked what Durrani is saying is entirely wrong.

The ex-ISI chief in an interview to Al Jazeera said that most likely ISI sheltered Osama bin Laden and hoped to use the al Qaeda chief as a bargaining chip with the US to strike a deal on Afghanistan before he was killed in a covert Navy SEALs raid in 2011.

“I cannot say exactly what happened but my assessment…was it is quite possible that they (the ISI) did not know but it was more probable that they did,” Durrani said in the interview according to the transcripts released by Al Jazeera.

“The idea was that at the right time, his location would be revealed. And the right time would have been, when you can get the necessary quid pro quo – if you have someone like Osama bin Laden, you are not going to simply hand him over to the United States,” he said.

And you think rabids will stop biting after reading this statement? They were told over and over again that Durrani has hanged up his boots some 20 years ago and obviously (but who says common sense is common after all) not been informed about the events. Yet, the terrorist Hindutva apologists went bezerk as usual.
