Ex- army chief Bikram Singh asks India to be careful of new Pak Army Chief

Appointment of Qamar Javed Bajwa as new chief of Pakistan’s army seems to have set alarm bells ringing in India as country’s former army chief Bikram Singh on Saturday said New Delhi should be careful with respect to general’s approach.

Gen (retd) Singh regards Gen Bajwa as thorough professional who gave an outstanding performance in Congo during a UN peace mission, where they worked together.

“Things change once an officer goes back to his home country,” Indian media reported Bikram Sindgh as saying.

He said the new Pakistan army chief has wide experience of affairs related to the Line Of Control (LoC), adding that Qamar Javed Bajwa has served in all areas (bordering India) and knows pretty well what kind of terrain and conditions exists on both sides.

Earlier in the day, Pakistan appointed Lt Gen Qamar Javed Bajwa as Chief of the Army Staff (COAS) and Lt Gen Zubair Mahmood Hayat as Chairman Joint Chiefs of Staff Committee (CJCSC)

General Bajwa will get baton of command from General Raheel Sharif who retires on Nov 29 after completing three years in office.

"There might be great bonhomie when the goal is world peace under UN mandate but things change once you go back to your country. This is because your national interest comes first," General Singh told PTI.

He said India should wait and watch and be "careful". Asked if he sees any drastic change in Pakistani military policy once Lt General Bajwa takes over succeeding General Raheel Shareef who retires on November 30, he said, "I do not see any change".

It seem India is already feeling not good. So let see what new Boss does. His first two months would be crucial and will set the tone. Also what kind of person he promotes when 4 Lt Generals who were senior to him retire. I hope the two he promotes are Billal Akbar of Sindh Rangers and Sher Afghan head of Baluchistan FC.

Serving under a senior officer on a peacekeeping mission on behalf of UN DOES NOT equate to one beimg better than the other, nor dpes it equate to knowing him inside out. And you are actually doing exactly the opposite of what ypur fprmer CAS advised.
