After establishing an electronic design and manufacturing facility for a corporation in Saudi Arabia, Etion Create is looking to further work with Saudi Arabia’s defence sector.
Tobie van Loggerenberg, business development director at Etion Create, said the company is now engaging with other new role players in the Saudi aerospace and defence sector after concluding a five-year project that established a design and manufacturing facility that mirrors the core of Etion Create’s South African facility.
“We’re talking to them at the moment to assist them further in growing and expanding their capability to provide a service to the industry in Saudi Arabia similar to the service that we provide to defence contractors in South Africa.” Van Loggerenberg said negotiations are underway.
“We have created a name for ourselves over the past ten years by consistently delivering on the Saudi’s main objective of growing their local engineering capabilities through Transfer-of-Technology (ToT) programmes.
Today we are very well positioned in that market to continue with assisting various OEM entities who wish to deliver on their localisation and offset commitments”. He noted that the Saudi Government is transforming the defence contracting model through newly established organisations as part of the Kingdom’s 2030 Vision to localise large percentages of their spent on defence equipment.
Van Loggerenberg said the Saudis have grown their local defence technology base over the past decades by working with technology partners such as Etion. They are also relying on several other South African companies to advance the development of their defence sector.
Etion is also active in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) and is also pursuing opportunities in India, which may benefit from its transfer-of-technology experiences to localise manufacturing.
Etion Create, previously known as Parsec and part of the Ansys group, has now been rebranded to Etion. Other divisions in the Etion group being Etion Digitise (previously Ansys Rail), Etion Connect previously Tedaka Network Solutions), and Etion Secure (incorporating LAWTrust).
Etion Create’s core business is systems integration, product development and manufacturing services, with a strong focus on defence electronics. It does weapons and electronics integration by leveraging of its own range of modular commercial off the shelf (COTS) boards which are designed and manufactured in-house.
