In this thread, we would like to present English translations of important news articles published by Dainik Amardesh and other similar Bengali language newspapers.

I would welcome people to post Bengali articles and then volunteers to translate them. If we all pitch in, it should not be a big effort.

If anyone starts the translation work, that person should post that translation work for a certain article is being done. This way, there is a way to avoid duplicate efforts.

Many reasons to translate, one is that many are lazy to look at the Bangla font, using zoom in options. Also, we can provide this information to international readers interested in Bangladesh news.

Finally, if Amardesh management want to do it, they can take the translation and publish it in their website.

. .
They should.

I already stopped reading Daily Star a long time ago

Too bad we don't have any English dailies to report the other side of BD. A really sad state of affairs. And the level of propaganda, bigotry, party bias shown by the awami media over the past 1 month is really frightening that surpassed all limits of yellow journalism even by their own standards.

Daily Star literally oozes with yellow journalism :hang2:

They'll lose the creativity and recognition they once enjoyed, it is inevitable. All thanks to Mahfuz Anam.

On a different note, if you would allow me, I would like to congratulate you for becoming an International Mod for the Bangladesh section. A desert dweller had banned me earlier, and seeing the low IQ levels of most members in this forum (which surprisingly attracts a lot of Bangladeshis of similar IQ levels but very few intelligent Bangladeshis - MBI Munshi being one such example of a 'luminary' and intelligent poster, even though I do not agree with him on every single issue), I had decided to bid this forum adieu.

Thankfully, now that there is a relatively unbiased Bangladeshi mod in place, I hope things will improve, and I also hope you will put all the enemies of Bangladesh and all the Indian agents in their rightful place.

Having said all that, I do not agree with you on all issues either. I hope that will set a standard for 'intelligent Bangladeshis' (and non-agents of foreign countries like India or whoever else) to follow. We may not agree on each and every single issue, and in fact, may share very few traits in common, but we have to support Bangladesh's identity as envisaged in 1905, 1947, and subsequently in numerous other episodes in 1975 and 1991, for examples.

Under no circumstances can the aspirations of the 85-90% majority population be subverted by a relatively small number (about 600,000 as per senior journalist, former BBC employee Sirajur Rahman) of active RAW agents in Bangladesh.

I am out of this forum alright (mostly because of the low level of 'intellectual discourse' from all the backward peoples be they the nation of most illiterates, hungry, sanitationless and "Nanga Sadhus", or be they 'desert dwellers', "nomadic Mongols", "hillbilly cowboys" and so on. Granted the number of ignorant and low IQ Pakistani members is also high, that is not unexpected because it is THEIR NATIONAL defence/military related forum. All the foreigners are mere guests..

Congrats to you again, though, I would have liked somebody like MBI Munshi (Bhai) with his vast real life experience, knowledge, acumen, academic credentials and network of connections at the higher rungs of BD and foreign society, to be a better representative of the aspirations of Bangladesh's 85-90% population.

In the end, you too have your strengths, and your relative political unbiasedness in matters of Bangladeshi domesic politics is one such strength. Personally, I would have just preferred that the most intelligent (or more internationally travelled) people like you (and some others I would not name) would take a strong, principled stand in favour of Bangladesh even if it clashes with that of India or whoever else. Pakistan is of little concern to us at the moment, 1971 is water under the bridge, even though some wounds take a long time to heal, I would reckon a sincere official government approved apology to Bangladesh (NOT BAL) would do much to remove many barriers, in the end, we have surpassed Pakistan and India in most indicators of development, and the remaining few that we have not surpassed them in, we will probably surpass them in the near future Inshallah.

It's high time we pursue a more pro-active foreign policy (hint: China=big brother, Bangladesh=little brother, but China-Bangladesh=brotherhood) to rein in the designs of Hindutva extremists, give freedom to suppressed "North Eastern" seven states, and level West Bengal at the first sight of any malicious intent from the Chanakyabadi terrorists and deceptive Hindutva radicals intent on raising the flag of Saffron terror in Bangladesh.

Congrats again.

Even though I disagree with you on numerous issues based on matters of principle, this is one 'project, that you have undertaken that is 'worth it'. Having said that, I have bid this forum adieu to reasons mentioned in my previous post.

Good luck with this project.

Information Minister Hasanul Huq Inu yesterday accused national daily Amar Desh, Naya Diganta and Sangram of spreading propaganda against the youths' ongoing movement at Shahbagh.

Interesting Paragraph from Daily Star:

Indecent remarks against Islam and Prophet Hazrat Muhammad (pbuh) were posted on a blog named Nurani Chapa Samagra first from Pakistan. Besides, the blog archive of Rajib has no atheistic pieces of writings published during his lifetime

Amardesh is just spreading propaganda. They have just increased violence and conflict its not welcome.

3 newspapers abusing press freedom
Says information minister

Information Minister Hasanul Huq Inu yesterday accused national daily Amar Desh, Naya Diganta and Sangram of spreading propaganda against the youths' ongoing movement at Shahbagh.

"Ideologically, these newspapers are against the Liberation War and many of the owners and journalists of these dailies were instigators of genocide committed during the Liberation War in 1971," he said at a press briefing at the ministry.

These newspapers have been confusing people with false and fabricated information and instigating religious sentiment of the Muslims, said Inu.

Taking advantage of press freedom, Amar Desh and other newspapers have been printing and reprinting news items like leaflets on some alleged blog write-ups of slain Ahmed Rajib Haidar, which is inconsistent with the policy and law of journalism, the minister said.

Doubts have been raised whether the blog write-ups were of Rajib Haider. According to the international surveillance groups that research on blogs, the write-ups were published after his death, Inu said. Somebody did it, using Rajib's name.

Indecent remarks against Islam and Prophet Hazrat Muhammad (pbuh) were posted on a blog named Nurani Chapa Samagra first from Pakistan. Besides, the blog archive of Rajib has no atheistic pieces of writings published during his lifetime, the information minister said.

"Whatever was published in the blog -- be it true or false, before or after his death -- no newspaper can publish such humiliating and offensive remarks. It's immoral."

Explaining further, Inu said blogs, Twitter and Facebook are informal media. Newspapers cannot publish any derogatory remarks posted on the social networks on any religion -- it is a crime.

The Bangla dailies are humiliating Islam and Prophet Hazrat Muhammad (pbuh) by publishing those news items.

Asked about what action the government would take against Amar Desh, he said they were scrutinising the legal issues involved in this connection and thinking of taking action against the paper.

Legal action can also be taken against the editor but that requires gathering specific allegations against him.

Continuous publications of derogatory remarks on Islam and the Prophet, Rajib's killing, armed attacks by a certain group, vandalism of Shaheed Minars and desecrating of the national flag -- all these have a connection and it seems an effort is on to trigger riot in the society, Inu noted.

Referring to BNP acting secretary general Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir's comment on the Shahbagh movement on Tuesday, Inu said when the entire nation has become united against war criminals, the opposition is urging youths to speak of love.

"Did he [Fakhrul] mean to love [war crimes accused] Ghulam Azam and Quader Mollah." Inu asked the opposition to clear its stance on the matter.

A play is on to foil the war crimes trial and destabilise Bangladesh, Inu said, adding BNP is the producer, Jamaat-e-Islami is the director and armed Jamaat cadres are the actors of this play.

Asked why action would not be taken against daily Inqilab that published such news items first, he said Inqilab had published them once but then refrained from publishing those further.

Information Minister Hasanul Huq Inu is a communist and Daily Star, Prothom Alo and most TV channels are acting as mouth piece for fascist and nastik (non believers). There is zero credibility and value on what Daily Star publishes.

Thanks bro. It's not about being rude. I can respond to anybody in kind if they act in that way. The point is I was banned by a desert dweller when it was a desert dweller who had insulted me and Bangladesh for no logical reason, as if it was all 'out of the blue'.

I gather from your posts that you are a "Bihari" stranded in Bangladesh who grew up in the West? Well, I would also like to apologize for the sufferings that Biharis have endured in Bangladesh post-1971. There have been political issues involved, the masses are mostly illiterate and emotionally driven in South Asia and quite naturally the politicians banked on that to gain political mileage. That's not to say Bihari community or Bangladeshi Muslim/other community made no mistakes, but as a select 'minority' which has been treated quite unfairly in Bangladesh for many decades to come out and approve of Bangladesh's logical demands and 85-90% Bangladeshi's natural aspirations is a sure sign of relief. That's a topic for another discussion, thanks for your welcome.

I would have translated many articles from AmarDesh (or any other Bangla language newspaper), but the predominance of low-IQ creatures creeping in from across the border as well as the low level of discourse in the Middle Eastern/most Muslim regions' fora has simply withered away my interests. But, I thank you for the warm welcome and your apology even when you were not personally at fault.

Thank you.

For crying out loud, leave us alone for god's sake, you are calling us names again and don't expect a response? Your problem my brother is that you live in an imaginary world (Muslim World)where you give yourself the right to slander others nations, regimes and people, you are acting like we live in one united country, but we don't at all. Plz, concentrate on your country and leave other countries to their people. At least respect our feelings when you talk. All the best for you and Bangaladish.

Since we are Muslims, we are ordered to forgive and forget eachothers. Let's start a new page. Peace.

Journalists clamour about comments against Mahmudur Rahman: Iqbal Sobhan Chowdhury's comments uncivilized, tasteless

Citing the comments of Iqbal Sobhan Chowdhury about Mahmudur Rahman as extremely uncivilized and tasteless, editors and "journalist leaders" stated that "He has only exhibited his own inferiority complex through such comments".

Blinded by party-affiliation, he has made such tasteless remarks that it has hurt, shamed and infuriated the entire journalistic community. Mahmudur Rahman carries out objective journalism, they added. The journalist-leaders urged Iqbal Sobhan Chowdhury to retract his comments at once. Senior journalist and editor of "Shongram" newspaper, Abul Asad said "Iqbal Sobhan Chowdhury is a senior journalist. He was the editor of the Daily Observer. Such comments were unexpected from a journalist like him. We never expected it. He commented about Mahmudur Rahman on such a issue that he would not have commented on had he investigated the issue thoroughly before commenting. Mahmudur Rahman carries out objective journalism. A crime was committed, and Mahmudur Rahman merely carried out his journalistic duty in publishing a report on that crime. Such (tasteless) comments on this issue from another journalist is (totally) unexpected."

"Iqbal Sobhan Chowdhury should not have made such a comment about Mahmudur Rahman", suggested the editor of Daily Naya Diganta newspaper. "A journalist should strictly abide by the rules (of journalistic ethics?) while commenting on another journalist. Comments of this type are not appropriate. The president (? shobhapoti) of Bangladesh Federal Journalist Union, Ruhul Amin Gazi, condemned this heinous comment about Mahmudur Rahman by Iqbal Sobhan Chowdhury and added "This (comment) is highly offensive. There is no room for making such comments about an editor. He has not done the right thing by releasing such a comment." Urging Iqbal Sobhan Chowdhury to desist from releasing such comments in future, he said "Mahmudur Rahman is an established journalist. His journalist career spans a long time, while there are many editors who do not even know how to 'write'". He rejected the comment with complete disgust and thought that "Such comments will only strengthen the resistance from journalists. Today, it may be somebody's turn to hear such tasteless comments, tomorrow it would be somebody else's turn. Such comments will never be acceptable."

Secretary general of BFUJ and former president (?shobhapoti?) of the National Press Club, Shawkat Mahmood expressed his deep disgust about and strongly condemned the tasteless comments from Iqbal Sobhan Chowdhury targetting Mahmudur Rahman. Shawkat Mahmood said "He has only revealed his uncivilized character through such a remark. There is no logical basis for his comment. The journalist community can never accept Iqbal Sobhan Chowdhury's comments. Through the usage of uncivilized language about a valiant and determined newspaper-editor of the day, he has only displayed his own indecency." "There is a limit to how much one can spite someone based on his own political affiliation, but this journalist (Iqbal Sobhan Chowdhury) has transgressed all such limits", added the prominet journalist leader.

For crying out loud, leave us alone for god's sake, you are calling us names again and don't expect a response? Your problem my brother is that you live in an imaginary world (Muslim World)where you give yourself the right to slander others nations, regimes and people, you are acting like we live in one united country, but we don't at all. I did not mention your name even once, just get out of here.

We want the resignation of this blood thirsty killer govt.: Khaleda

To protest genocide, please come to the street:

In the name of Muktijuddher's Chetona (spirit of the freedom fight of 1971), defamation is going on against our prophet (SAWS) and Islam:

Pressures are increasing to arrest courageous newspaper editor (Amardesh) Mahmudur Rahman:

Call for dawn-to-dusk strike (hartal) on March 5, Tuesday, to protest genocide

Describing the mass killing of unarmed religious minded protestors as "genocide", opposition leader BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia said, the consequence of "genocide" will be grave and dangerous. Calling the ruling Awami League govt. as "blood thirstly killer govt.", she commented and demanded that this govt. should step down without delay. To protest this mass killing she, the leader of all opposition parties coalition, called for the people to come out to the street.

Yesterday evening in Gulshan, at the office of the BNP Chairperson, in a crowded press conference, opposition leader Khaleda Zia mentioned the above. To protest govt. corruption, misrule, oppression, suppression and genocide, coming Tuesday, she called for the work-plan of a country-wide dawn-to-dusk strike (hartal). In addition, the plan was announced for protest processions today at 3:00 PM, in Nayapaltan Dhaka as well as the capital and other districts.

Khaleda Zia said, that current govt. has completely destroyed the environment for fairness and justice in the country. In this situation, under this govt., there is no possibility or opportunity left for any oppressed citizen to get a fair trial. This fact equally applies to the trial for "Crimes against Humanity" (1971).

Khaleda Zia called the current prevailing situation in the country as a "grave and dangerous crisis", and never have the country seen a grave situation like this since independence (1971). The whole nation have been polarized and divided. The religion of the overwhelming majority of the country, the sacred religion of Islam and our great independence has been made to oppose and confront each other in a planned way. Islam and our independence have no contradiction between them. But a conspiratorial circle of people, in the name of realizing Mukti Juddher Chetona (Spirit of Independence, 1971) have started to engage in ugly defamation against sacred Islam, Allah (Rabbul Alamin) and beloved prophet Hazrat Muhammad (SAWS). Pressures are being created to illegally arrest the oppressed and courageous newspaper editor (Amardesh) Mahmudur Rahman. Threats are being issued to shut down the opposition newspapers and TV channels. Threats are being issued against honorable citizens for expressing their independent views. The ones that do not follow their party line, they are threatening to catch and slaughter them one by one. This govt. has divided the people to create this grave environment of conflict and violence. This disunity, polarization and conflict has threatened our national security. She mentioned that this govt. must take full responsibility for creating this grave situation.

She said that naturally it has tremendously hurt the religious feeling of the majority of the country. It is unfortunate that when these devoutly religious people have taken initiative to protest against these nefarious activities (defamation of Islam) in a peaceful way, asked for identification and trial of the criminals engaged in these activities (defamation), then the govt. in return has engaged in heartless mass killing of these unarmed peaceful protesters. Not only that, these devoutly religious general mass people have been identified as anti-liberation, war-criminals and their associates and made victims of endless oppression. Govt. party goons/terrorists entered mosques to harass Musalli (religious people), Khatib and Imams. Young teenagers and youths have been caught from protest marches and killed mercilessly by shooting them point-blank. House wives have been killed in their own houses.

(To be continued..... , not completed)
