much emphasis on a symbolic vote
I did not factor in the stupid vote at the UN. Like USA overtook Britain like so will China. It's all about the economy. The trend.

This vote and UNGA was unprecedented and according my limited knowledge. USA has been opposed so overwhelmingly and especially keeping in mind that USA resorted to threaten the world before the vote and even the countries that depend on US aide have defied and when that happens, a country cannot be called a superpower so I voted "yes". I'm really confused that whether Trump is so stupid or he is really an implanted agent of Russia / Putin because Russia/China couldn't do that as much to harm USA's status as the superpower as Trump has done and now it up to the American people who decide what they want to do.
Remember it is not simply the military power rather the perception and acknowledgment by the world that makes a country a superpower. Also USA's military power is over-rated. Remember USA never attacks any country alone. It has the support of NATO at least and UN stands at its back. But that support is eroding and Trump has just accelerated the generative process.

Honestly I think this Jerusalem as the Capital and the UN vote is just a prelude to some big scientific achievement announcement by Israel. For instance say they have figured out Nuclear Fusion and the world comes to them to solve their energy problems. Now they are going to license the tech first to the countries (and construction companies in them) that didn’t vote against them and make everybody get stuck in red tape. Something along those lines.

I think this whole thing is not as simple as people seem. They have a rabbit in their hat that they are going to pull out.
A conspiracy theory?

$20 trillion economy that's outpacing most every country including China in dollar GDP added. A military that can project power anywhere in the world. World class companies and universities. A rising dominant nation in energy. The foremost space power in the world. What is exactly "numbered" again? People are putting way to much emphasis on a symbolic vote, that in reality means little. We get it, the world hates Trump. Trump is temporary, while the U.S. retains huge advantages.

Just as I thought: USA is a big loser! :D

There are many people on this forum who have wet dreams about the demise of US as a superpower and will grasp on to anything that makes US look bad, including this insignificant UNGA vote on Jerusalem.

It is okay. It is their right to think so.

They found the Great Tree, probably. :D

Why the announcement now? Something has changed to spring this out suddenly. Now if Israel shows bias to some country they'll just use the excuse it was a direct result of the vote.

The US economy has outpaced China the last 5 years in both real dollars added to GDP and total national wealth. China's economy will slow down over time especially as they head into their demographic crisis years. On the other hand. U.S. demographics are much more favorable over the mid to long term. The US is a full spectrum superpower. China will never reach that status.

Okay. So we have arrived at end of history then. Egyptians, Mesoptamians, Indus, Greeks, Persians, Romans, British etc etc all went down.

But guess what? Americans are going to buck the trend and stay numero uno until the Alps have eroded away into the Mediteranean. I mean superpower was a condition that is intrinsic to the American DNA.

Ever thought of writing a book to follow on Francis Fukuyama's End of History?

ITER is in France and not Israel.

Just plot out the workers per retiree graph for China (and USA) over the next three decades. Quite revealing. :D

I voted yes.

lol, This is not the 1990s, or the year 2000, when USA held all the cards.

Now the times are different now. Its almost 2020.

A rising China and Russia will change everything.

Assad has won the war in Syria. USA is losing influence across the world.

It was inevitable due to Trump's stupid policies.

I suppose F-22 still believes US shall remain as the biggest economy in the world for a very long time
In fact China will be the world's largest economy very soon, if it is not already.
Probably by 2020 China will have the world's largest economy.

I disagree. US is past the high water mark which was about mid 1990s. The reduction of a superpower is not abrupt or like switching off a light. But rather like fading of light from day to night. Right now USA is in the late afternoon and the Chinese are early morning. USA can only go toward night and China only high noon. There is nothing superlative about USA. It is not end of history. Like previous empires have gone so will USA.

A superpower is not so because it says it is. It is so because other countries accept it as such. That acceptance is waning. And will wane more as China brings better options to the table then USA. However I agree USA will remain dominant with a "rump" Western sphere.

And I think USA is going to get worn out like it wore out USSR. As me move forward America will increase military expenditure to keep up with Chinese. This will over time stretch USA to the limit.
Bro,

Game is not over yet! Far from it.

Roman Empire in its heydey not only witnessed the arrival of Hannibal at the gates of Rome itself but decisive defeat of Carthage at its hands at a later stage.

US is not lacking in power and/or influence as an entity. In-fact, US has been in a much better position to project its power across the world since the fall of USSR. However, China is wise in its moves. Even though China has disputes with several of its neighbors, it has commenced OBOR as a means to establish its goodwill across the world. Conversely, China is taking advantage of miscalculations on the part of Trump administration such as scrapping the China-containment initiative of its predecessor and the recent Jerusalem episode. Therefore, some are getting the impression that China is advancing while US is on the back-foot.

It is important to understand that US is on the back-foot on its own; Trump administration simply needs to revamp its foreign policy. Jerusalem episode was utterly unnecessary, period. However, US is unlikely to loose important allies to China over this matter.

Let us see what happens! US-led action against North Korea might completely shift the game in the Pacific for starters. And there are rumors that this might come to pass under Trump administration.

USSR fell because its economic system wasn't working and its politicians could not resist the pull off democratic reforms for long. In comparison, US is doing well in all fronts.

Of-course, no country is invincible but demise of US at this juncture is out-of-question. If a bloody civil war was not sufficient to close the chapter of US, Chinese initiatives wouldn't anytime soon.
