Elon Musk speaks for Direct Democracy on Mars

By the time we have an actual society there, our grand children will be adults making that decision, let's leave it to them. Our standards will always be lower than our grand children's.

Still a very short time considering the age of the civilization with learnt to fly barely a hundred years back.

BTW @jamahir , Elon Musk is not really the voice you want to support your stuff....he says some very strange things, he called the British expert in cave rescue (the one that helped to free the thai boys stuck there recently) as a pedophile...all because that guy called one of his other ideas as stupid.

In any case in space, there should be no govt at all, it should be purely a scientific approach like used in Antarctica today (i.e no such thing as land ownership, but purely research focused). Asteroids and such for mining can be first come, first serve policy. Only when human populations increase beyond research activities, will we have to come up with a govt there, but it should be limited and transparent....i.e no socialism/massive bureaucracy + high individual responsibility.

You introduce governance, and they'll introduce weaponization of the society. I believe Space governance will be extended version of the government of their own respective countries, settled in patches. Until settlement becomes mainstream, and starts to become sustainable on their own without assistance from earth.

Yes, I have read about that.

What Musk said was not good. But maybe he has been slightly affected by the feminist-oriented, moral-policing, politically-correct culture in the present West.

That is what Direct Democracy is about. Focus on issues rather than on parties. And collectivist effort. Also, think of the Amul milk co-operative we have in Gujarat. Add to that the "open source" efforts in many fields presently, like the open source operating system, Linux; and the open source microprocessor, OR1K.

I am in agreement of your "purely research-focused" line.

Asteroids and such for mining can be first come, first serve policy.

Hmm. That requires a reading of the docs from the UNOOSA ( United Nations Office for Outer Space Affairs ).

And those can be changed if needed.

Only when human populations increase beyond research activities, will we have to come up with a govt there, but it should be limited and transparent....i.e no socialism/massive bureaucracy + high individual responsibility.

Socialism/Communism need not mean massive bureaucracy. You can sense that from the my forum post links I put in the OP.

Besides, one of the credos of Communism is 'From each according to his ability, to each according to his need'. That will ensure high individual responsibility.

And why a government at all?? I man as we know it.

I dunno, increasingly the generation cohorts are losing touch with basic realities and common sense moral grounding.

Haha. But these people were always there since forever, it's only the Internet that has exposed them.

Everybody gets a kick in the rear end once introduced to real life, no exception. Employers ask for job experience for a reason. :D
