What's new

Egyptians Vote on New Constitution in Referendum

i will keep it simple so anyone can understand the brotherhood and their supporters did not take any part in the elections so all who went was going to say yes the people who refuse the constituon didnt go
and we dont care what the rest of the world think of us you think that the west who was friend of mubark for 30 years care about freedom or democracy
and i am sure if our presdient has a beard it would be ok with you it doesnt matter if he is good for egypt or will improve relations with your country you only care if he is islamist or not

I believe in personal freedom of people. One should be free to choose to have a beard. Could you keep a beard in Egypt? For the longest while it was treated as a crime. My fellow student friends in university would get rid of their beards (if they had any) if they had to travel back to any of the secular Arab dictatorship countries like Egypt, Algeria, etc...

I support constitutional representative governments that are answerable to their people. There is nothing MB or non-MB about it. But people like you, who must hide behind a screen of criticism for MB simply do not make an effort to understand this.

You think West gives a damn about you? They laugh at you and your midget dictators. Arabs get no respect, precisely because they are so accepting of mediocrity, illegality, & immorality in their rulers. Do you have any idea how many women Saddam and his sons raped? Can you guess the wealth collected by any of your bloody Arab dictators? You people have absolutely no problem with that. You just enjoy complaining and cribbing. But you can not make any sacrifices to establish a normal government. Any ruling elite who has to lie, cheat, and steal in order to preserve itself in power can never produce a society in which ordinary people might want to live. That is the tragedy of you Arabs. It is your choice to live under $hitty dictators. I really do hope Tunisians are able to buck the trend and show the world that Arabs are not third class people when it comes to political consciousness.

If you wish to perpetuate being a useful idiot, have a blast. Enjoy yourself. Just do not pretend to be proud of it.

Seriously, stick to your own country and mess you insufferable oaf.

I am insufferable because you can not address your weaknesses. It is not my fault that your Arab pride gets hurt reading my posts. I do not enjoy criticizing Arabs. I hope they give no one a chance to mount valid criticism.

It is not my fault that you choose to be a useful idiot for your regime, so suffer on....

Nope beards are no longer allowed. I mean look everyone who went to the referendum didn't have a beard....

That's not a beard...

Seriously, you have no clue what you're talking about.

I support constitutional representative governments that are answerable to their people. There is nothing MB or non-MB about it. But people like you, who must hide behind a screen of criticism for MB simply do not make an effort to understand this.

So when a president releases a constitutional decree granting himself all executive and legislative power and putting himself beyond reproach what should happen? surely he should be made accountable.

After the coming parliamentary and presidential elections will we not have a constitutional representative government that will be accountable to the people? So what is your problem.

You should probably look at the The Economist's Democracy Index (2012) in which Pakistan is only one spot above Egypt which had transitioned out of dictatorship by revolution, one spot and yet you are here acting like Pakistan is the worlds greatest democratic nation. You are in no position to lecture anyone on anything.

You think West gives a damn about you? They laugh at you and your midget dictators. Arabs get no respect, precisely because they are so accepting of mediocrity, illegality, & immorality in their rulers. Do you have any idea how many women Saddam and his sons raped? No one brought race into this yet you somehow see it relevant. Nevermind, racists will always be racists.

Since I'm living in the West I should probably inform you that Egyptians get a lot more respect than Pakistanis. They also get a lot more love from the women.....

Then let me suffer in peace you blithering idiot.

idiots being led by idiots

what a sham of a state, its idiocy like this that simply wont allow change in the muslim world to occur

For generations muslims looked one way and saw saddam, looked another way there was Assad then the house of saud, Ghadaffi, Mubarak and so so on and so on

These people are a strangle hold on our socieites and people for generations they have held us down

Revolution and change is chotic but that chaos is neccersary so vital historic change can take place, whther it be the american war for independence or the french revolution or russian revoloution that has been death chaos, war and hunger but it was vital for those socities to change

so change may bring chaos to egypt, it may bring chaos to tunisia or syria but it is vital for those socities to change and grow up

Its not about the M.B its about the process, you can hate the M.B but you will have a chance to vote them out, and the egyptians would then be free to vote for whomever, whether they be secular or islamic

But this is just retarded, a whole country being led to the slaughter by a corrupt and power hungry military and secular elite, completley Disenfranchising a wholse generation of their own country & creating life long hatred

Its just mental, just mental

Just wishing the egyptians luck isnt enough,

So then, what is your point? Do you think that anyone can achieve peace without talking about it? Oh wait, your types do not wish for peace. War is your objective, since you find it hard to talk. You are more comfortable lashing out at others with gibberish.
I mean that real arabs make elections and are good people

Zionist salafists or muslims brothers disturb everything with car bombs attacks, beheadings, abductions to bring unrest so Israhell is protected.

Nothing can be more 'HISTORIC' than 99.992% vote for Nasser in 60s. A little less 'HISTORIC' was 99.98% for Hafez Assad in 1991. Hosni Mubarak was even less 'HISTORIC' at low 90s in %age. He even allowed his 'HISTORIC' vote to slide to a pathetic 88%. I mean what sort of self-respecting dictator allows his 'HISTORIC' %age to slide to 88%? That old horse set himself for failure. Clearly Egyptians detest dictators whose 'HISTORIC' voting %age falls below 90%. The Arab dictators live in fear of their 'HISTORIC' percentages slipping below 90%.

Its funny if you think about it. Poor old 1st & 2nd world politicians have to put up with very less and un-HISTORIC %ages. Some even have to make do with a little above 50%. How do these poor politicians live with themselves when they clearly are failures at being 'HISTORIC'? The pathetic old politicians like Mahatir Muhammad, Rouhani, Erdogan, Reagan, Hollande, and that dumpy old woman Angela Merkel all are failures at being HISTORIC. If the people of their countries were not so decent, educated & gutless, these poor sods would never survive. The people of Malaysia, Iran, Turkey, USA, France, Germany, etc... need a good old Arab mind-set to get rid of pathetic politicians and get themselves a good old thoroughbred general so that these nations can become good at being 'HISTORIC'. I am not even talking about UK, Spain, & Italy, those fools have to put up with miserable, boring, and shockingly weak coalition governments. I think Egypt should export some of its generals to these poor countries so that some good and solid 'HISTORIC' figures can be created.

My Military Junta's propagandist friend, learn to differentiate between 'HISTORIC' and CREDIBLE. I would pick credible over HISTORIC any day. But then you are an Arab. You are programmed from early childhood to believe in ancient Arab superiority, glory of being an Arab, and to believe in destiny of being ruled over by military dictators. Good for you. Just do not expect the rest of the world to agree.
Short of underage girls again ?! I feel some frustration in your tone. Well, either ways you lost. Don't be a sore loser and accept your loss and recognize your mistakes. The people have spoken....AGAIN!! don't you listen ?!!!

When you can not answer with facts and logic, you have to go below belt. No surprises there. This is what you people are capable of.

I am not MB, I live in Lahore. I do not have a horse in this race. I just wish Arabs could prove their critics wrong. You have closed your mind and you just do not get it.

I find it funny that Arabs seem to speak in very high percentages. 99%, 99.9%, 99.99% etc... You must think that the rest of the world are idiots. Anyway, carry on with dictatorship worship. Good for you. Thanks for the laugh...

The voting process is monitored by international and local right organizations you idiot. Until you have a proof that the voting was rigged, you need to shut the f up. Stick you your country, if you don't know what the hell you are talking about.

These are the numbers from the previous referendum on the Muslim Brotherhood constitution.
  • The eligible voters in the constitution referendum : 51,919,067 voters
  • The no. of voters who casted their vote in the referendum : 17,058,317 voters
  • The official turnout : 32.9%
  • The valid votes : 16,755,012 votes
  • The null votes : 303,395 votes
  • The no. of those who approved the constitution : 10,693,911 voters “63.8%”
  • The no. of those who rejected the constitution : 6,061,101 voters “36.2%”
The goal is not to just have a higher approval since the main group that opposes the constitution is not even participating in the vote that is guaranteed. The goal is to have a higher turnout that the previous vote since the Muslim Brotherhood claims it has the support of most Egyptians and that is laughable for anybody that lives in Egypt.

Neither is this...

Just wait and see. This will last for as long as Nour party is in the boat with you. Plus Saudis do love their beards. For billions of dollars you have received from them, you have to listen to your new masters. In any case, for the longest time under Mubarak, Egyptians could not really keep beards. You can't be so young so as not to remember.

Dictators do not like freedom. So, your freedoms will be limited. You deserve it.

Seriously, you have no clue what you're talking about.

Really?
I live in a third world country: CHECK
I live in a Muslim majority country: CHECK
I live in a country which has seen many military regimes: CHECK
I live in a country where some nutcases advocate military regimes: CHECK

So, what were you saying again?

Maybe you are right. Maybe I do not have a clue, because:
I live in Pakistan, which was created by a vote.
I live in Pakistan, where people jealously guard their freedoms.
I live in Pakistan, where we do not tolerate dictators and get rid of them whenever we can.
I live in Pakistan, which is an established democracy, but has an over-bearing army.
I live in Pakistan, which has multiple political parties, ranging from Rightist religious parties, to leftist socialists.

I have taken personal risks by opposing Musharraf. I have demonstrated on the streets to establish constitutionalism and rule of law. So, yeah, there is a world of difference between us. While I know what goes on in your conditioned dictator-supporting mind, you have no clue how I think. You do not have the background to understand my mind. I seem incomprehensible because of your self-imposed limitations. It is not my fault.

So when a president releases a constitutional decree granting himself all executive and legislative power and putting himself beyond reproach what should happen? surely he should be made accountable.

Sure, I agree. But that agreement can not be extended to support for a murderous dictatorship. The process is more important than personalities.

An power-hungry usurper general is never accountable. Just you watch.

You are in no position to lecture anyone on anything.

Economist's index means nothing to me. Before this reply of yours, I assiduously avoided mentioning Pakistan. I never said a word about how, why, & if Pakistan was a better country. But now that you have brought it up, let me ask you to educate yourself about Pakistan's history before exposing your ignorance. Pakistan's genesis was predicated upon democratic process. That is why we never accept dictators as a part of our political culture.

No one brought race into this yet you somehow see it relevant. Nevermind, racists will always be racists.

Since I'm living in the West I should probably inform you that Egyptians get a lot more respect than Pakistanis. They also get a lot more love from the women.....

This has nothing to do with race, and everything to do with a mind-set that tolerates mediocrity, illegitimacy, & immorality. Look at Tunisia. Can you compare Egypt with Tunisia, even though both are Arab majority countries? If you call Arabs a race (a factual mistake) you can not call me to account on basis of my criticism. I have respect for Arab activists who support democracy and representative constitutional government. MB or no MB, I have nothing but disgust for dictator supporting morons; particularly the ones who enjoy the perks & privileges of Western societies without caring to appreciate what makes these countries superior to likes of Egypt.

Until and unless Arabs show that they are capable of decent political norms, I shall continue to criticize them. Not because I enjoy doing so, but because they must realize their folly.

Until you stop supporting a group that wants to apply barbaric laws, I will not stop telling you to shut the f up. Not because I enjoy it, but because you must realize your stupidity.

I don't think anybody who thinks a woman is like half a man, calls for female genital mutilation, wants to kill people who leave his religion, and want to discriminate between people based on their religions, race has any right to speak about democracy, freedom, or any rights. fix your own sh!t first

Oh I'm sorry, I didn't notice, my grandad didn't have a beard, neither does my uncle, nor my neighbour, and I'm not sporting one right now, neither are countless actors on Egyptian TV, or the countless clerics from Alazhar or others. Egyptians were always fond of facial hair and that will never change.

Really?
I live in a third world country: CHECK
I live in a Muslim majority country: CHECK
I live in a country which has seen many military regimes: CHECK

Do you or have you lived in Egypt? No check.
Have you studied Egyptian politics and/or history? No check.

So, what were you saying again?

You have no idea what you're talking about.

I live in Pakistan, where democracy stops at the ballot box.
I live in Pakistan, where MP's don't ever visit their constituencies after elections.
I live in Pakistan, where elected officials don't care or do anything about drone strikes.
I live in Pakistan, where elected officials have let the Taliban flourish.
I live in Pakistan, which I believe is a sophisticated democratic nation but everyone else in the world can see its otherwise.

Well done. Now let me take your arrogance down a notch.

I do not , repeat, do not support the amended constitution. I do not support the current regime. I do not support Abdulfattah Elsisi nor do I support him running for the presidency, he should be on trial. You have no idea what my views are.

Much self-imposed limitations.
Such incomprehensible.
Much background.
Such understand.
WOW.

Sure, I agree. But that agreement can not be extended to support for a murderous dictatorship. The process is more important than personalities.

That's where the problem lies, there was no process. No one had the power to actually impeach the president and with him refusing to call for a referendum or early presidential elections what else could be done?

His regime had already fallen before the 3rd of July.

An power-hungry usurper general is never accountable. Just you watch.

You've misread him.

Economist's index means nothing to me.

It should do.

And yet your people accepted military coups and leaders for years not just transitional periods. You still haven't moved forward, Pakistan is not a truly democratic nation.

This has nothing to do with race

Then why did you bring it up you racist oaf.

and everything to do with a mind-set that tolerates mediocrity, illegitimacy, & immorality

So every Arab from the tip of Syria to the deserts of Mauritania shares the same mindset?

Can you compare Egypt with Tunisia, even though both are Arab majority countries?

No you can't, they are completely different countries. I can speak with authority because I have actually been to Tunis even before the revolution, its entire population is less than that of greater Cairo.

Until and unless Arabs show that they are capable of decent political norms, I shall continue to criticize them. Not because I enjoy doing so, but because they must realize their folly.

You forgot to add; because I'm racist as well to that.

Have fun criticizing all you want. I will never quote you nor should you me again. Have an unpleasant day.

So you are saying that I support:
1. Barbaric laws.
2. Consider a woman like half a man.
3. Call for female genital mutilation.
4. Want to kill people who leave my religion.
5. Wants to discriminate between people based on their religion, race.

Whatever gave you these ideas? I am not responsible for your mental dysfunction and hallucinations.

You are doing anything and everything to mask your cognitive disability. Its not my fault that you support a murderous regime.

That is what Islamists in Egypt wants to do, so your support to them is a support for these ideas. They don't say that they don't want these laws, so you are either ignorant, or you do support these disgusting things. Either way, f off.

Preliminary unofficial results: 97.7% of votes in favour of Egyptian draft constitution with 38.5% turnout. Comparison of the results of this referendum and the 2012 referendum can be seen below. The Muslim Brotherhood call for boycott actually made more people go vote. Again, this numbers are early results and not official. Some news agencies are claiming the numbers to be little higher. Official results should be announced tomorrow.
