Eight new Rafale fighter jets are joining the Egyptian Air Force next year, reports the Egypt Independent, based on a publication by the Egyptian state-owned newspaper al-Akhbar.

According to the publication, the commander of the Egyptian Air Force Younes Al-Masry said that “Egypt will receive eight new Rafale fighter jets next year." He added that the receipt of the fighter jets comes as “a result of political efforts to increase arming in this class."

Masry said that with the arrival of the new fighter jets next year, Egypt will own 14 Rafales, adding that “this resembles a huge force, doubling the capabilities of the armed forces."

In February 2015, Egypt signed a military cooperation agreement with France, under which Paris will supply 24 Rafale fighter aircraft, one multipurpose FREMM frigate, and the MBDA short/medium-range missiles, in a deal worth 5.2 billion euros.

Until January, Egypt had received six of the Rafale jets promised by France. Egypt is due to receive the rest of jets within two years.

.
I think Egypt might be looking to build a greater fleet of Rafaels and this is great. The aircraft is superb for sure...

. .
Good decision by egypt. They will surely go for few more.
With f16s , mirage 2000 and rafale, Egypt is becoming strong air force.
Now, it's time to buy SAMs

Nuclear tipped missile capability taken out. Possible Meteor in the future and 16 two-seater Rafale DMs and eight single-seater Rafale EMs (monoplace) including Mica air-to-air missiles and Scalp cruise missiles. Also ordered AASM Hammer guided missiles. Not sure what the Indian Rafales include. We're very sanctioned with weapons capabilities even from France because of you know who, :) however, they (the French) are the first with guts to provide us with some of the latest BVR missiles so kudos to them unlike the US with the AIM-120 and since this is the first deal that includes advanced BVR missiles (or at least a known announced one) the hope is that either the MiG-29M/M2 or MiG-35 (whichever it ends up being - most are saying it's the MiG-35) will hopefully include a great package of R-73 and 77's. I believe the MiG-35 has the capability of carrying the R-77 whereas the 29M/M2 does not. If it happens to be the 35 with such a weapons package from Russia, this will certainly put the situation between the US and Egypt in a precarious position.

Egypt A.F is arming like anything. They got F16s,now rafales and they might get latest migs from russia. Maintaining these many no. of birds requires more $$$

No question to a certain degree, I agree. Don't forget the 46 +/- Kamov KA-52 Alligators/Katran helicopters for the 2 Mistrals not to mention the carriers themselves and the new subs and frigates. But back to your point about cost of maintenance - the perspective is that at least an equal amount of the older birds will either be put into storage or simply retired with these taking their place (especially the new MiGs will create this "swap", so to speak and not necessarily the Rafales - although some of the older Mirage 5's might see the bed :lazy2: lol.....) but I do believe the new Russian jets will replace many of the 21's :( ( and/or J-7's.) So in some respect, the maintenance will be greater as far as dealing with the "modern" element of maintaining these birds and not necessarily in a quantitative sense. But the training comes with the purchase. The question will be spare parts and replacement weapons. Just FYI, the Egyptian military is it's own entity, apart from the executive branch but with the former military chief of staff now the president.....lol....this is probably why we're seeing a lot of these purchases was/is mostly due to Obama's temporarily halting the delivery of the last few of the last batch of Block 52 F-16's because of the Morsi coup and the sanctions imposed on Russia and Putin's new and angry view towards the US for that. That opened the door for most of this other stuff because it all involved Russia and the eagerness for France to get the Rafale on the market with all it's struggles to do that. So we scored big time with what just fell onto our laps.

Plus we've taken care and maintained the 4th largest fleet of F-16's very well for a long time now. The important thing for our military was to get into the advanced BVR missiles aspect and capability since we've been heavily restricted in that way for quite some time which is why our SAMs have been a high priority and now we finally have been able to get the S-300 with Antey system and the Tor Buk M1-M2 along with many other types which makes our surface to air defense very decent and helps take pressure off the F-16s. Now I would like to see more concentration on internal and economic improvements to the country.

Its unfair , Saudi building Egype defence system and nothing for Pakistan armed forces. Pakistani units defend them many time.

Kindly qoute a source for that. Without reference to reliable source, it is just you an your oneliner. Show what KSA pays for in the military of other countries, or shut up.

The allocation of FMF (FOreign Military Financing) by country is...
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/United_States_Foreign_Military_Financing#By_country

Israel in 2008 was 3rd largest recipient of FMF Egypt 4th, after iraq and Afghanistan. In this year, Israel's FMF was almost double that of Egypt but roughly half the FMF to Egypt and Afghanistan.

Next were Pakistan and Jordan.

The Foreign Military Financing (FMF) program provides grants and loans to help countries purchase weapons and defense equipment produced in the United States as well as acquiring defense services and military training. FMF funds purchases are made through the Foreign Military Sales (FMS) program, which manages government-to-government sales. On a much less frequent basis, FMF also funds purchases made through the Direct Commercial Sales (DCS) program, which oversees sales between foreign governments and private U.S. companies. FMF does not provide cash grants to other countries; it generally pays for sales of specific goods or services through FMS or DCS.

American taxpayers doled out $5.9 billion in foreign military financing in 2014, according to the government's Foreign Assistance report -- that's roughly the GDP of Somalia. But where did the money go?
To the usual suspects, mostly -- Israel ($3.1B) and Egypt ($1.3B) received roughly 75% of all foreign military aid money handed out by the U.S. last year.

They have some 80 1970s Mirage Vs to replace ... not to mention over 600 Mig21 and J-7
