India has offered Egypt to set up production and manufacturing facilities for Tejas Mk1A light combat aircraft (LCA), as well as helicopters, informed sources told Daily News Egypt. This comes as India pursues export opportunities in the MENA region.

The sources confirmed the reports in Indian media that a series of high-level engagements have taken place with Egypt.

Besides offering the Tejas Mk1A Light Aircraft (LCA) to Egypt, Hindustan Aeronautics Limited has also introduced its range of indigenous helicopters such as the Advanced Light Helicopter (ALH) and Light Combat Helicopters (LCH).

Reports have also indicated that India is the frontrunner for Malaysia’s requirements for light combat aircraft, with a comprehensive deal on the table including maintenance and spare parts for Russia’s Su-30 fighter jets.


 
Sorry, but if Egypt will ever get a lowest end type, they surely won't purchase an untested type like the Tejas even more when a proven design from a Muslim country is available too. To think they have a chance it getting this contract is ridiculous .

Well, the Egyptian Air Force commander is visiting india to explore the opportunity. Guess we will see.

The Egyptians, their negotiations are always difficult and long, and they only get the best available, to illustrate simple examples

The Indians have good offers, so there is an interest in Chinese competition. China did not offer anything good to Egypt technically or technically, but the K-8E plane. Tejas is all foreign parts no domestic parts. Basically India bought a bunch of parts and assembled it together and said look at our jet fighter!! That is why no one will buy it

They did still design the aircraft itself, wind-tunnel test it for aerodynamics and built the entire structure from frame to panels and fastening system as well as the ever so complex electrical and computer systems. The metallurgy alone is the most difficult aspect of building a fighter jet 2nd only to the engines. The engine are the most difficult item for several reasons.

And for the first, domestic/indigenous project, using off the shelf parts to complete the list of items is not really such a bad thing. It's a great accomplishment no matter how one slices it.

For Egypt, the Israeli crap that is in the aircraft is the biggest problem, of course. Even if the majority of these aircraft could end up being export models, if they decide to use some to supplement or replace current K-8s & Alpha Jets for trainers or even apply it as an LCA in the air force, it simply cannot have any Israeli junk in it. That's where I think the JF-17 would be a much better choice for the EAF.

Also because the delta wing vs wing/stabilizer platforms, the latter would be a much better choice IMO since the EAF has the Rafale and there is a large possibility of also acquiring the Eurofighter Typhoon soon, adding a 2nd or possibly 3r delta style platform doesn't seem to be the right choice, given the direction that most 5th and 6th generation designs seem to be heading in. Not to mention the EAF is or has stored a huge number of very well-kept Mirage Vs. So, another delta configured aircraft would just be a major redundancy. @Ramses Akhenaten Ahmose

The American/Israeli partnership in the Tejas makes it a less suitable option IMO for Egypt than the JF-17 block I and a few Block IIs with the option of Chinese weapons. Even with that, we don't really know how good Chinese weapons are, especially A2A. They should exhibit the PL series tests a lot more if they haven't already.

You're kidding, the plane is basically an advanced training aircraft and a light fighter, not the main one. The army has 215 F-16 fighters, 54 Rafales, 52 MIG-29M/M2 planes and 30 SU-35, so 70 LCA SPORT advanced training planes, 50 LCA-MK2EG planes are not bad, but they will be Lead-in fighter training / Light fihjter

Egypt unlike other nations in that region has interests in developing its own defense products and were aware of its importance very early on

For example, Egyptians were developing their turbojet engines as late as 1960s

Assuming Egyptians plan to continue above trend of Defence R&D inhouse, technology know how from Tejas specifically composites and laminates will be very useful and any aerospace ventures Eygpt has planned . Other suppliers of this technology may not be open to share or share it at reasonable price
