I was analyzing Pakistan's historical GDP records, and although I already knew under Pres. Musharraf economy was very prosperous under his administration, but just take a look at the before and after in the line chart.

I calculated that during the Musharraf ruled era 1999-2008 alone Pakistan's GDP increased by $100.93 billion! That is more than all the years from 1960-1998 where Pakistan's GDP only grew by $58.483 billion! That means in Musharraf's 10 years of rule alone Pakistan doubled the aggregate GDP Pakistan had earned in 38 years!

Just look at the chart, look at how the line skyrockets upwards during the Musharraf era, all the other years preceding Musharraf never grew so rapidly in terms of billions. In fact every year under the Musharraf administration economy grew more than $10bill, with the last 3 years of his administration growing more than $20 billion a year!

Looking at all this data you can only imagine the economic circumstance would be today had his administration continued, from an economic standpoint.

Pres. Musharraf 98-2008: $100.93 billion

V.S

Presidents Ayub Khan, Yahya Khan, Zulfiqar Ali Bhutto, Fazal Chaudry, Zia Ul Haq, Ghulam Ishaq Khan, Wasim Sajjad, Farooq Leghari, Muhammad Rafiq Tarrar 1960-1998: $58.483 billion

Musharraf beats 9 Presidents of Pakistan in GDP increase!

This is a discussion of the Musharraf administration from an economic standpoint. Please don't drag in politics or other fields into the discussion. Thanks. Way to go Musharraf, he was the greatest Pakistani president for the economy.

This also means that at the rate Pakistan's aggregate GDP was increasing from 1960-1998 (38 years), it would have taken Pakistan 64 years to increase the GDP as much as Musharraf administration did in 10 years!

It's an undeniable fact, Musharraf was the best President of Pakistan.

From an economic standpoint there is no doubt about that.

You should consider the value of dollar in your analysis.

This was just a brief analysis in raw terms, though value of dollar matters, the larger point at hand is under Musharraf's administration the economy grew extremely fast compared to prior administrations in aggregate GDP term.

imagine if pakistan had a constant growth rate of 8.4% or 8% since 2005.
we might have a GDP of more than 330-340billions dollars(252billions dollars now)

Good Old days under Musharaf

Ah i want these days again.

China's New Growth Challenger Is Pakistan: Mukherjee (Correct) - Bloomberg

June 7 (Bloomberg) -- India is no longer the front runner to challenge China for the fastest economic growth among the world's most populous nations. Pakistan is.

According to figures released over the weekend by Pakistan's Prime Minister Shaukat Aziz, the $110 billion economy is estimated to have grown 8.4 percent in the year ending on June 30. Among the world's 10 most-populous nations, that rate is exceeded only by China, where gross domestic product expanded 9.5 percent last year. India recorded 6.9 percent GDP growth in the 12 months ended March 31.

In general from 2000 to 2008, world economy added wealth faster than ever before in the human history. Most economies added lot of wealth. China was growing at double digit rate, India's growth was hovering around 8%, US was growing at near 4% and Europe at 2.5%. I am not sure how much was the Musharraf's contribution in that. May be Musharraf was lucky to be at the helm when world was adding lot of wealth. Comparatively from 2000 to 2008, Pakistan performed lesser than other populous economies.

today dollar is 103 rupees, at mush time it was constant at 58 rupees and increasing

Dictators always begged more to US so economy always went up in their regime......

lol didnt zardari begged? the economy growth is not begging its prosperity

if its begging then you sould admit how india begs dollars from america in the form of investment and many other things

Musharraf was no doubt, a blessing for economy. He is the reason how high (and low) Pakistan is today. The research and development institutes were boasted, promoted, economy and GDP was on surge, foreign relations, were better than today atleast. However, a few of his policies ruined his reputation. Like everyone else, he did commit mistakes as president too, which out-weighted his positive approach.

I love begging that way.....but the problem is that...US is begging India to open the complete door for US investment :D

what mistakes he committed that out weighted his positives? nobody can be perfect but musharraf was at least sincere in solving the issues rather than waiting for it and not doing any sort of work at all

i dont think US is copying indian manners, copying their everything in their normal way of life, copying their culture, styles etc

its the other way around

india is trying to appear gora in order to win US empathy

You should consider the value of dollar in your analysis.

A friend of mine went to states for education in 1998, he was forced to buy USD from open market @ rate of 1USD=80PKR.

Musharraf, also did this one miracle that he reversed the equation and 1USD=45PKR.

Eventually, Musharraf was punished for this and world media came hard on him, in the case of Mukhtar Mai, Red Mosque and cheap justice case.

That brought on to us revenge of demoncracy.
