the Chinese commercial drone is pretty short range...

if it was right near the fence (if there is a fence) it could have been someone from the Indian side, or it could also have been locals (civvies) from either side operating it

BEIJING:In an embarrassing disclosure for Pakistan, Chinese official media on Saturday reported that the “spy” drone Pakistani army shot down along the LoC, claiming it belonged to Indian security forces, was made in China.
The drone was “recognised in Beijing as the Chinese made DJI phantom 3,” the ruling Communist Party of China (CPC)-run People’s Daily said in a report on its website.

Quoting Shanghai-based Observer website, the report said that the Phantom 3 advanced drone represents the most intelligent, most powerful, and most accessible drone to date.

Observer says the drone sells for USD 1,200 each. DJI is a Chinese technology company founded in 2006 by Frank Wang and headquartered in Shenzhen, Guangdong.

The firm manufactures commercial and recreational unmanned aerial vehicles for aerial photography and videography, it said.

The People’s Daily report confirming the Chinese identity of the drone may put Pakistan military in a spot considering the close and strategic ties between Islamabad and Beijing.

The Indian Army and the Indian Air Force (IAF) had already denied the allegations.Questioning the Pakistani allegations, foreign secretary S Jaishankar had said the “photograph of the drone in question indicates that it’s not of Indian design, nor of any UAV (unmanned aerial vehicle) category held in the inventory of the Indian armed forces.

“It appears to be of Chinese design, and is commercially available off-the-shelf.” India’s rebuttal came as tension escalated along the LoC, following firing and mortar shelling by Pakistani forces. Indian forces have responded to the Pakistani action.

All this proves is that Indians also rely on Chinese tech. Toy drone or military drone it was being used to gather Intel, now Indians can try to give it any spin they desire, but Pakistan caught India in the act and the embarrassment caused is too obvious.

These drones are easily bought in online retailers like amazon and ebay.

It might just be a toy belonging to some Indian (or Pakistani) soldier fcuking around around the LOC.

It has a very very limited range. Indian soldiers cannot possibly control it inside Pakistan from their bunkers. And many bunkers are present atleast 400-500 metres from the boundary. No way logical.

The fact is that it was a Pakistani drone and was shot down and the Pak media jumped the gun on this.

All available pics of this supposed downed drone do not show any signs of bullet impact.

For all we know, they could just placed this drone on these twigs and claim to have shot down an Indian drone

Actually it isn't anywhere near equivalence.

The 'Spy Pigeon' was the term carried by the media. There has been no statement from Indian Police, MoD, Army or any of our agencies terming the pigeon as a Spy.

Whereas this 'Indian Spy Drone' theory was a statement put out by ISPR, considered the most reliable source of Pakistan.
