Dreamliner may break records on test flight to Bangladesh

Until and unless the ownership is not sold to a private concern or the management is not done by some other private airlines company without interference from political goons, it is almost sure that Biman Bangladesh will never make profits. Same goes with Bangladesh Railways. The GoB is worried it will not get any profits from these concerns without them being in charge works as a boomerang. The hope of getting profits always remain unfulfilled when the notoriously inefficient BD bureaucrats are at the top.

With a private professional management team at top, BB can make a good profit and will be able to pay the money to Boeing for purchasing ten jets without asking the govt for a bail out. It will be able to pay taxes on net profits to the govt. But, anyway, BD bureaucratic and political tangling will not allow the airlines to be taken over and managed by a private company.

I am not in support of selling ownership of our national carrier. Biman is not only to make money but to provide services to the citizen of Bangladesh when other private operators are unwilling to provide. Srilankan government had to buy back its national carrier.

We should constantly try to improve the service level of our Biman. Just ask a middle east bound labor. They get the best service in Biman than Emirates or any other operator in accordance with their expectation. I travelled with some middle eastern carrier, and their service in Dhaka-Dubai is quite different than Dubai-Hethrew. They just treat people differently despite paying the same fare.

If you think, only privatization ensures services than you are wrong. We have private operators as well and experience is bitter.

Its not privatization rather healthy competition ensures service. Can we ensure healthy competition?? Nope. Just look into our land and river transport. They just form a syndicate, and screw the customer. Same happend in mobile phone sector. Only when government came up with Teletalk with cheaper rates than other operator had to reduce the call rate. YOu could argue that Teletalk cant provide service, yet government must have some tools in its hand to streamline the private operators.

Another good example BRTC. When private owners are operating 30 years old buses, its the BRTC which is bringing some better buses in Dhaka street. Government came out of the mentality that BRTC must make profit, rather provide basic essential services to its citizen. If we have to give subsidy, then so be it.

But, this is not happening to BB for the last 40 years or so. I do not expect any good future for BB unless it is managed by non-govt people. There must also be free competition whereby other airline operators must be given similar facilities as BB is given by the govt.

Well, you talked about everything but did not touch the core issue. YOu are blaming management, but you failed to recognize that management does not have power in state run enterprises. They cant hire or fire people which is the essential part of management to bring discipline and efficiency in the organization. Literally management is the hostage of the low level employees.

First and foremost the law should be ammended so that the manpower intake should be lateral in every tier of the organization. But our organization is run by hiererchical intake for instance a assistant engineer must be promoted to executive engineer and an executive engineer must be promoted to the post of chief engineer. Instead of following that rule we should, hire executive engineer through open competition. The same rule should be applied in every tier of the organization. That will bring efficiency.
