What's new

DRDO says its Kaveri engine can power combat drones 80 kN of thrust now.

I know there are delays in every projects in every country but they are nowhere as common as they are in Indian defence projects. When you hear that DRDO is "going to" build something you almost expect to be delayed. It's the norm.

Is that the way it's supposed to be?

It is past now. when DRDO started those projects India did not had so much money or industrial bases. In the 80s and 90s our economy was not good. But now on those delayed projects DRDO has gained experience and research base. See Agni-1 and Agni-II took many years to induct but Agni-III took far less time, why because the base was created.

Because you are a LIAR. F-18 was rejected because US was not willing to part with "blueprint". It had nothing do with quality of plane. Again, you are a broken record. Keep repeating the same lie.

If I am a liar than truth = lie in your wet dream. I will not keep repeating anything as you burn while India improve and induct more and more made in India products. burn and burn.

You have zero contribution to any made in india product but like a bigmouth you bash it!

The Kaveri core (Kabini) is small it's thrust with upgrades can be maximum 85kN not 100 kN. For that we need a new development.

Well then they should start every effort for new core. It shouldn't take decades more to make new core of 100KN when we have already 80KN. But the sad part is after so many years and so much money being spent still 80KN is in testing. :hitwall::hitwall:

JV would have been the right way from the start, but today they are just needed to counter our failures! It was a mistake to let GTRE develop the engine and not HAL, which already had experience with the licence production of foreign engines. Just like it was a mistake to do it alone without foreign help in form of a co-development partner, that supplies stop gap engines. We made ourself too dependent on the indigenous development and LCA completely dependent on the success of Kaveri engine and both turned out to be wrong decisions!
We have to get rid of the idea that we can be self reliant only, if we develop everything alone, because we have the big advantage that Russia, S. Korea, Japan and most western countries are friendly to us and are open for co-developments and JV. Especially in times when they struggle with fundings, we have way more of such options and should make full use of them, instead of thinking about the pride and honor of indigenous developments. The simple fact is, we are decades behind most nations and we would catch up faster if we let them join in our developments, with their know how and experience.

Thats the problem, mistakes after mistake... Even for JV, still its in pipeline. I find it shameful that even with 120Cr. population we can not find good scientists to make a decent engine. Back to JV, the last time i heard from Snecma, they were offering their own core, and that means the problem remains unsolved. The master countries will offer us their help only in two cases, one if they are in need of money like Russia did and second when they will feel that we have already master the required tech like USA. JV is good option but we can not fit it into every problem. In some cases we can find good JV but for majority we would have to go alone like FBW...

No it will not. Kaveri was the first, so delayed but now DRDO may go for JV with Snecma of France. They deal is pending.

the question is not about JV but what Snecma will offer? Will they help us making our own new core or we will put their core. If we will put their core then JV is not of much use as the issue is of core only.

As far as i know Snecma does not has 100 kN+ engine. we need to develop a new one together. Snecma has huge experiences in engine development. so I think it is a god idea.

this shows that tejas is not indigenous jet fighter
engine is of USA
weapons are from Israel and also many avionics are from western countries
but 1 good thing is that 22 years of work till comes to end in the result of kaveri

I was pointing out about the core.

"In June 2010, the Kaveri engine based on Snecma’s new core, an uprated derivative of the M88-2 engine that powers the French Rafale fighter, providing 83-85 Kilonewtons (KN) of maximum thrust is being considered an option by DRDO"

Its from wiki. So if DRDO is going to use already developed Snecma's core, then i dont think the JV will offer something special. As the main problem that we are facing is the core. So now i am waiting for the news that whether a new core will be developed by both or they will use already developed. if its new, then lets see what tech DRDO will get from french. But if its already developed by Snecma, then i am not interested in this JV

Weapons are from India also as Astra will be used and some are already developed like laser guided. But you forgot India did same with SU30MKI and according to your same logic it is also no more Russian?? So i see many flaws in your logic.
Back to Tejas, We have the engine but sadly the requirement of IAF has also been increased for thrust which forced the MOD to buy from outside. By the time MK2 will be out, you will surely see almost all weapons and Electronics indigenous.

I really didnt want to say anything on DRDO's saying it can power combat drones, but one thing is that we are always overrating things. First lets have a drone and test it on the drone and then power the drone with Kaveri and then say its worth...

GTRE is doing a good job, but these kind of statement attract more ctricism than appreciation..

anyway good job

Kudos to DRDO if it can use its engine to power UAVs and trains. We should not think of it as a failure....just look at any possibilities in its usage. This will help us later. Lets start designing around this engine and then gradually make improvments.

Only gullible Indians believe Kaveri is not a failure. Kaveri is a dead end engine. It won't be able to go any faster. That's why DRDO is making laughable excuses to use it for train or UAV. It is a failure no matter how you spin it. It failed its stated goal to power LCA. I doubt DRDO is even capable of turning it into a train engine or UAV engine. DRDO likes to talk big but delivers little.

Your best bet is to cut your loss and stop throwing money down the drain. Buying GE F141 is a good start.

As opposed to arrogant Americans who believe every product coming out of it's inventory is divine creation unrivaled by mere mortals the world over?
Get off your high horse and get a whiff of ground realities. The USA was not born with high technology right from the get go. It took 2 world wars, defection of scientists from rival nations and a cold war to get to where you are and any American who believes other wise is naive.
The Kaveri test engine on the IL 76 proved good enough at 80 KN. GE F141 is good for the time being, but eventually there will be a shift to indigenous capabilities.

Thanks for suggestion, Point taken.. But before talking in this tone can you please let me know how much we spent on Kaveri?? and ow much USA have spent on failed/canceled projects.. If spending on kavei is .001% of American expenditure on cancel project, we will stop R&D work....

Brother America, You are experience nation, you must know how R&D works, many project get cancel, many failure, finally we taste the success...

Vibs, You are falsely blaming US dude. He is not from US. These accounts are created for India bashing. these losers cannot bash India with their own country's flag.

The same false flag! How many people are so there I do not not, they come up with US, Vietnam, France etc flags and bash India!
