DRDO - Boon or Bane?

@Indian Patriot , i will request you to remove that and also tune down a bit.

Bhakt is not a slur or an abuse. Bhakt in Hindi language means a devotee. Educated people in India use the term BHAKT as a sarcastic reference to people who are too blinded by their devotion to a particular person, company or agenda to debate in a meaningful manner.

I understand "buffoon" is not a polite word but I am sorry I had to use it because these people repeatedly bring up my religion and make personal attacks. If they desist from doing so then I assure you I won't utter anything bad.

As for the points you have raised against DRDO, i do admit i don't have a reply to them all. However i will like to mention that building everything at home is not necessary.

People here are not getting a simple point hat I have raised. I don't expect DRDO to be of he same caliber as Boeing, Lockheed Martin, SAAB, BAE etc.

What I do expect from DRDO is that at least in matter of small arms India is self-reliant and does not have to rely on imports. India at present has to import 5.56 mm Tavor rifles because the INSAS rifle produced in India is sh1t (pardon he language but that is he only term to describe INSAS). Even SMG of 9 mm caliber has to be imported. Indian army in 2015 is still using world war two era weapons like Sterling.

And we are not even talking about 155mm arty guns, MLRS, tanks, aircrafts etc.

In Kargil war India was in panic mode and had to panic buy from foreign countries whose sole purpose of selling weapons and equipment was profit. India had to pay a king's ransom for something as basic as a pair of thermal socks. The point is that in case of wars and conflicts India has to look for external help instead of turning to domestic suppliers - AND THAT IN PLAIN SPEAK IS CALLED FAILURE IN PART OF DRDO.

From fighting internal insurgencies to conflicts like Kargil India is dependent on foreign suppliers. What has been he achievement of DRDO?

I still doubt your claims about INSAS as it was reportedly a great gun. The issues were resolved in the modifications and the new version are really good. In fact they were competing with the best guns of the world for Indian army's future rifle. The MCWS or Excalibur something!

Painting the orange furniture black does not improve a gun. INSAS is still overweight, lacks firepower and has a 20 round magazine when 30 round magazines are global standard for 5.56 mm caliber rifles.
