In 2011, India spent 2.6 % of its GDP, a GDP over $1.848 trillion 2011

Even if they want to want to build military bases, they lack the number of ships and the force projection required to make these bases useful. China is still a good 20-30 years away before she can truly project her power like the US can. Whatever ships PLAN have, they are already posted in SCS against the much superior US Pacific Fleet. Peeling off the numbers and posting them in IOR will only weaken their defence in SCS, thus for now, military bases seem unfeasible.

Apart from number of combatants they can field they also have severe constraints in that IN is initself quite large. And if they wish to post a detachment in Gwadar, it needs to be large enough to be able to fight IN in what are basically Indian waters.

Secondly, its a question of logistics as well. Gwadar is very far from China. Posting of any military base would mean that they would need to maintain a line of logistics through the Malacca straits. The Malacca straits are literally at IN or USN's mercy. They can be closed for Chinese warships at anytime by either. Andaman and Nicobar Islands literally sit at the mouth of these Straits which host Indian TriServices Command.

To bypass this severe logistical constraint, the other option is to build a string of bases each hosting few combatants that can converge in times of need. They suffer major problems in this either.

Sri Lanka has already expressly confirmed that Sri Lanka will not host any military base that would compromise Indian security now or ever.
Bangladesh is unlikely to do so for India is the biggest power broker there. Both the national parties wish to be on India's right side.

The last option remains Myanmar. Myanmar has sizeable Chinese influence, with India coming second. That field is wide open.

However without Bangladesh and Sri Lanka, that leaves a major gap in their base strategy if it develops. It would have to be a bloody big arc around Indian peninsula and Sri Lanka to reach Gwadar. Not really a good idea.

After american pull out there is high probability America will put Sanctions on Pakistan and Pakistan might not even have access to Energy resources from Arabian Peninsula. So that is why Pakistan is moving forward to IP gas pipeline project which is hurting the American plan for Pakistan for post withdrawal era. But what you did to Pakistan by playing trough proxies such as BLA and TTP you will get the payback. Both TTP and BLA are the dying breeds soon they will extinct.

And Pakistan alone will emerge as survivor in One piece in this Global game. But cant say same for you. Who will you look to in afghanistan "Karzai" he is a stooge and a President of Kabul nothing more.After withdrawal he will also run or will try to make friendship with Pakistan. He has no choice. Once West border is secured then Pakistan's total focus will be to stabilize economy and pay you in kind what you were doing through to TTP and BLA.

Maybe true but still we have to spend this due to insurgency. Pakistan is in state of war against terrorists who are trying to destroy Pakistan so basic rule of war is that in war you spend what you earned to survive. That does make sense isn't it.

When this TTP and BLA insurgency die which surely will and current rate of attacks are proof of that terrorists are on run because of PA ops and the fights among terrorists and after Uncle Sam the door will be close for you to Afghanistan means no supporting of TTP and BLA from your side.
