the US doesn't normally pick fights with opponets that can seriously hurt it back . it will only get involved if it absolutely has to (an Iranian invasion that threatens the Saudi regime) or to come in late to tip the balance when its satisfied that warring parties have sufficiently tired themselves out.

These are not important, the point is back in 2007-8 there was no conflict in Syria, Yemen, no embassy had been set on fire and no isis in Iraq or else where .. then why you were encouraging the US to invade Iran and not israel for example?
