Does India need a stealth bomber?

What for when we have brahmos missile? Waste of tax payers money in my opinion. Remember in the first hours of a actual war would be how fast can we hit the enemey and for that we need cruise missiles ideally with stealth features.

.
When 80% of my country's people live under Rs 20 a day then we dont need a $2 bil plane

Well then do we need a 500 million dollar plane (C17)? Do we need multimillion dollar planes at all, by the same logic? Where do you draw the line, at what magic number is the cost justified, when you compare it with the 20 rupee figure?

On topic I don't think we need a strategic bomber, stealthy or otherwise. A stealth fighter can do the same job in our region of interest. And can survive the hostile airspace better, without the need for other fighter escorts.

C17 we actually need remember we have 2 fronts to think off and there is no better transport plane then the C17. If there was a war how can we transport our troops and artillary and even tanks? logistics is key thats where the C17 is king

The availability of a stealth bomber gives you an element of surprise over your enemies... Suppose India is in a situation of war (god forbid it) with one of our very friendly neighbours having a stealth bomber and they decide to raid our supllies at night, they could do it right away without being detected... thats the power of a stealth bomber and if even we have this facility of a strategic bomber it would be like a mental strain on the head of opposition that they might be raided as well... besides this the Brahmos requires time to be deployed in the affected area's and what if our radar does not detect the bomber itself... that would redicule the presence of Brahmos even.

Sir, if you dont have those multi million dollars plane the "80%" of your "poor" population would be endangered of extinction... from of course those who have them...

A stealth cruise missile would be more suitable for India in hitting targets with pin point accuracy, in the US led operation of 'shock and awe' in Iraq it was cruise missiles like the tomahawk that did the initial damage taking out vital installations and then the stealth bombers went in. What would happen if China or Pakistan hit our Stealth bomber base b4 the actual start of a declared war?

I know we need C17, that was the whole point of my post - that comparing the 20 rupee figure to defence purchases won't get you anywhere.

Most humbly i would like to tell you that, India has almost completed the work on its long range, subsonic, all weather cruise missile known as "NIRBHAY"... your "Tomahawk" type missile will be produced from 2012.. the need of the hour is to have state of the art equipments in your inventory and a stealth bomber is one such thing....

Yes i know we are working on Nirbhay but stealth bombers are a waste of money in my view to actually develop one would cost $$ billions that's if we even could! we are struggling on LCA let's take things one step at a time perhaps in 15-10 years we could talk of a Indian stealth bomber until then let's concentrate on more pressing defence needs like artillary and CCTV's in Mumbai etc

First develop/induct MIRV tech for the existing/upcoming missiles. We have to make sure our existing capabilities are taken leverage off. Then we need 5th gen indigenous fighters like AMCA. The stealth bomber tech can be spun off from AMCA.

It was always Chinese or Pakistanis who go to for Indian poverty figures b/n 70-100%. Coming from an Indian its a bit of surprise. Dude be realistic do you honestly believe in this 80% figure. In my place(Kerala) even unskilled daily wage labourers earn more than 200 rupees per day. Skilled masons and carpenters more than 500 daily. Even a mobile recharge coupon cost more than 20 rupees and India happens to be one of the largest mobile market in the world. So you tell me where is this 80% poor hiding.

yeti we need some bomber the advance one

not a bad idea if we work with isreal and france

guys may be a secret project under developmental

I think you got me wrong, i am telling to start a joint venture maybe with Israel or Russia or try to acquire "some" of the upcoming stealth bombers which wont be as costly as the B-2...Like the PAK DA.. starting a joint venture would be cost effective and of course affordable to India... We "were" struggling on LCA but finally it is a success 48 LCA Tejas MK 1 have been commissioned by the Navy and MK 2 will shortly be released as well... Another option would be to get some Lockheed Martin F-177 Nighthawk which have been decommissioned and do some upgrades and then induce them in the IAF... this would be cost effective as well...

.
I have always advocated a squad of dedicated bombers for Strategic Command in place of 40 Fighter bombers they are planning to get...
Tu-22M is a very good option...

not to sure but i think 4 a/c IN lease for 10 yr.
