What's new

Do you think a free press is important for citizens to have checks & balances on the Goverment?

Do you think, despite some portion of the press being irresponsible- overall a free press serves all

  • The good they do in being a check and balance outweighs the harm some of them do

  • I think I rather trust what the government/politician says over a free press

Results are only viewable after voting.
I get the point far better than you do. I live in a country whose freedom of the press is the envy of the world.

Whose media ? And how ?

What YOU do not get is that if you empower the government to 'protect' you pretty much empowered the government to do whatever it wants to the press in the name of that protection.

We already had that experiment. Perhaps you have heard of it ? It was called communism.

Yes you live in the country where anything can be done in the name of freedom .., :)
Freedom of speech when it suits..
Freedom of press when it suits ..
That is why YOU completely ignored the link i gave you .. that's shows the freedom you live in ...

Another example --- > In most western countries you cant deny the holocaust (i am not saying it didn't happened) but someone might be off the view that most of the things being said now are fabricated :)

But your gov and press does not apply Freedom of speech or Freedom of Press on such subjects ...
Feel free to first come up with the proper answer for the link i gave and this subject before just saying things out of your keyboard without any solid evidences to proof your point..

A letter from an elementary school student to the municipal leader recently goes viral on the internet.

Zhao Tong, a sixth grader living in Lichuan city in Hubei province, wrote the letter originally as a homework assignment. But his genuine suggestions to the Secretary of Lichuan Municipal Committee (of the Communist Party of China) resonated with many including his teacher, who later uploaded his three-page-long letter to Wechat.

In the letter, Zhao first applauded the urban management campaign led by local government, for "Traffic conditions have been greatly improved, and the noise pollution from motorcycles is gone." Then he pointed out several deficiencies that have been troubling him, which include the slippery ceramic tile floor near the school that always got him tumbled, as well as the narrow space at the bus station which could cause a safety issue with crowds of students.

"Every time when we try to cram on the bus, the bus driver shouts to us 'Why the f*** are you pushing each other! Can't you just f***ing wait?....' My heart is broken in pieces as I hear his swear words. Can you ask them not to use curse words? " Zhao wrote.

Reports from local newspaper said Zhao's sincere suggestions have reached the recipient, and the municipal leader has paid a visit to the school to look into his concerns.

Here is a sample of comments on weibo:

@zhengyuegutentag: Applause for this boy of the new generation. They really have more civic awareness than us.

@forgorttencans: The way he articulates his opinions is much better than those students from high school. Excellent writing from a sixth grader!

@haixiaoli: His handwriting is beautiful. And I truly feel the same. Adults should be a role model in front of the kids. Don't use cursing words. They will learn from us.

@yijia: His way of solving problem is much more effective than many adults who always vent on the internet with complaints. He actually tries to communicate and present possible solutions.
