Diplomatic victory for Pakistan - Reason why Mahatir was invited as chief guest on 23rd March

I think India and its lobby can only push Pakistan up to grey list. And it was least Indian power. India doesn't have enough power or back up to black list Pakistan. Specially, when all ME and South Asia already on brink of war.

You know your country is pathetic when you have to beg from external powers to get things done against a country that is smaller in size and population lol

Well, Pakistan is very strong country but before very weak leadership. Enough learn after 27th Feb, anything happened after Pak strike back ? .......... nothing, because your enemy is very weak on security .

@graphican @Mav3rick Major points without going into sub sections. We need to discuss one by one in layman terms and connecting all the points together to present full framework suggested by FATF and whats good in it for us fear is useless posts/trolling enough to derail such thread, without mods its impossible job.Problem is not blacklist problem is getting out of grey list which required more actions & votes

Since June 2018, when Pakistan made a high-level political commitment to work with the FATF and APG to strengthen its AML/CFT regime and to address its strategic counter-terrorist financing-related deficiencies, Pakistan has taken steps towards improving its AML/CFT regime, including by operationalising the integrated database for its currency declaration regime. Pakistan has revised its TF risk assessment; however, it does not demonstrate a proper understanding of the TF risks posed by Da’esh, AQ, JuD, FiF, LeT, JeM, HQN, and persons affiliated with the Taliban. Pakistan should continue to work on implementing its action plan to address its strategic deficiencies, including by: (1) adequately demonstrating its proper understanding of the TF risks posed by the terrorist groups above, and conducting supervision on a risk-sensitive basis; (2) demonstrating that remedial actions and sanctions are applied in cases of AML/CFT violations, and that these actions have an effect on AML/CFT compliance by financial institutions; (3) demonstrating that competent authorities are cooperating and taking action to identify and take enforcement action against illegal money or value transfer services (MVTS); (4) demonstrating that authorities are identifying cash couriers and enforcing controls on illicit movement of currency and understanding the risk of cash couriers being used for TF; (5) improving inter-agency coordination including between provincial and federal authorities on combating TF risks; (6) demonstrating that law enforcement agencies (LEAs) are identifying and investigating the widest range of TF activity and that TF investigations and prosecutions target designated persons and entities, and persons and entities acting on behalf or at the direction of the designated persons or entities; (7) demonstrating that TF prosecutions result in effective, proportionate and dissuasive sanctions and enhancing the capacity and support for prosecutors and the judiciary; and (8) demonstrating effective implementation of targeted financial sanctions (supported by a comprehensive legal obligation) against all 1267 and 1373 designated terrorists and those acting for or on their behalf, including preventing the raising and moving of funds, identifying and freezing assets (movable and immovable), and prohibiting access to funds and financial services; (9) demonstrating enforcement against TFS violations including administrative and criminal penalties and provincial and federal authorities cooperating on enforcement cases; (10) demonstrating that facilities and services owned or controlled by designated person are deprived of their resources and the usage of the resources. Given the limited progress on action plan items due in January 2019, the FATF urges Pakistan to swiftly complete its action plan, particularly those with timelines of May 2019.

For Pakistan it's a victory dude. They are an overly optimistic bunch. They also claim they are not isolated at all. You want proof? Imran Khan shook hands and joked with Putin....proof for you :D

For Pakistan it is a victory, unwillingly you have no idea how much are you helping Pakistan to control the flow of USDs from Pakistan. God works in mysterious ways

Some thought it was for to push JF-17 sales but now we know the real reason. Thanks to Malaysia Pakistan averted blacklisting motion put forth by our chaddi friends

Pakistan's Imran Khan calls Dr M to thank Msia for its support

LONDON (Bernama): Pakistan Prime Minister Imran Khan telephoned Prime Minister Datuk Seri Dr Mahathir Mohamad in London Saturday (June 15) to thank Malaysia for its support of Pakistan’s bid to avoid being blacklisted by the Financial Action Task Force (FATF).
Dr Mahathir, who is in the United Kingdom for a three-day working visit, took the six-minute call at the Malaysian High Commission here.

Malaysia’s support was seen as crucial in helping to stop Pakistan from being blacklisted after India had put forth a motion with FATF to blacklist the country for money-laundering activities linked to terrorism.
With Malaysia’s backing, Pakistan now has the support of three nations.
After taking the call from Imran, Dr Mahathir told the Malaysian media present at the Malaysian High Commission that Malaysia showed its support to Pakistan as the country has upped its war against money laundering.
"We decided based on the rule of law. Not due to animosity. We admit that money laundering is a major problem and it is happening because of the borderless world that allows free flow of capital,” he said, adding that there was no point blacklisting any particular nation.
He also pointed out that the free flow of capital has affected other countries as well, including Malaysia, where capitalists have invested huge amounts of money in the share markets pushing up share prices.
"At the end of the day, they sell their shares for a profit and take back their capital and their earnings at the expense of the countries they invested in,” he said.
Dr Mahathir also touched on the irony of trade wars, where the world promoted trade on one hand and on the other imposed sanctions.
"In the end many innocent nations such as Malaysia are also affected. Hence, though we have no problem with Iran, we cannot trade with the country because of the sanctions. The trade war with China is also affecting us,” he said.
Meanwhile, after Dr Mahathir took the phone call from Imran, Foreign Minister Datuk Saifuddin Abdullah told reporters that with Malaysia’s support, Pakistan has three nations behind it, with the other two being China and Turkey, and hence it could no longer be blacklisted. - Bernama
