Bikrampur was the capital of Bangladesh starting in the 700-800 AD and until 1200 AD when Bakhtiar Khalji attacked. It was the capital of Pal and Sen dynasties for multiple centuries. Some ruins still exist at Baliati.
Sen Rajas moved their capital at that time to Swarnagram (Sonargaon) which remained so until the start of the Bengal Subah Sultanate around 1500 AD I believe. The ruins of Sonargaon (which was a textile traders community in the later stage) still exist and are a tourist attraction now.
Bikrampur (Manikganj) is the maternal abode of Nobel Laureate economist Amartya Sen by the way, if you did not know. His family later moved to Shanti Niketan, a very illustrious family close to the Tagore family.
Bikrampur still exist. It’s munshiganj district now. good to know a fellow bikrampura existWhat do you mean, Bikrampur? I thought it was no longer existent, that it was washed away ages ago?

Bikrampur sweets, houses and businessmen are well known all over Bangladesh.
Some idiots do break tradition with gaudy architecture. I prefer the wooden houses of bikrampur better
munshiganj people all identify as bikrampura, as the district basically inherited all the land that fell on bikrampur. If you know the name of your area, (I reckon this depends on thana) for ex, mine is tongibari... then it will be easier to locateI know that Munshiganj is the successor district, but is there a village named Bikrampur? There is nowhere for me to go and see our ancestral roots, because our village doesn't exist any more.

None of the elders could give me any more detail. Many of us cousins tried locating the approximate location when we went to Dhaka, and out to Munshiganj.
Small world.

My original ancestral land in bikrampur was Lao gone in the river, the current land s four generation, rest of of the family settled elsewhere @Joe ShearerDada @Joe Shearer you may be right about the village being devoured by the river. My condolences. :-(
