Did Trump Scare Iran: Tehran Reportedly Pulls Missile From Launchpad Following Launch Prep

Oh for gawds sakes.
Well I personally am more against Nukes for reasons that are mostly non-religious (but religion also plays a part), though with Khamenei and Khomeini giving fatwas against them I assume they hold mostly religious viewpoints on the matter.

What are the -

1. Religious reasoning
2. Secular reasoning

1. Religious reasoning
Religious: Typical humanitarian reasons... kills without discrimination... radiation poisoning can harm after the war... killing civilians intentionally is obviously frowned.

Secular: I think its irresponsible to have nuclear weapons, for any state. Its irresponsible and delusional to assume that nukes keep the peace through deterrence. The world will have another world war sometime in the future, and a nuclear world war will be the end of humanity as we know it.

I agree with everything you said. But it is wishful thinking to imagine a world without mass destruction weapons. Unfortunately not all humans play it fair and not all of them think the way you do so as long as there is anything that can give them the upper hand in a conflict, they will go and build it. I wouldn't even be surprised to hear that there are currently nuclear warheads placed in orbit ready to be released on any poor nation that cannot retaliate.

So if we forget about the hope of having a nuclear free world, then we can think realistically about the situation Iran is in. I agree we have values and we should stick to them but at the same time, first we need to survive to uphold our values. US has thrown everything at us except for direct confrontation. If that happens, I'd say value or no value, Iran should go nuclear the first day that US fires a single bullet towards Iran.

Oh, I'm not saying such a world is easily attainable. Humans are too bothered about short-term self interest than long-term survival. Perhaps we'd actually need to have a nuclear war for humans to realise this, similar to how after WW2 countries were brought together to avoid a similar conflict and make the UN (even the UN is totally useless now, its the thought that counts...).

Iran should immediately acquiesce to US demands and accept Israel's right to exist, forget about the Palestine issue (they'd be wise to follow the Arab world here) and looks for areas of cooperation such as the fight against the Islamic State and Al Qaeda/nusra/fsa etc in the neighborhood.

bad deal ?

no, I'm srs as hell

btw, I'm very pro Iran (anti Israel even) when it comes to Syria

I realize how big a national pride gulp it would require but you've been dealt a bad hand, go for the silver lining/glass half full strategy and stop this unholy alliance between the US, wahhabi arabia and Israel before they harm the Persian people.. forget about Palestine and try make deals with Trump where you can hurt saudi terror proxies like isis/fsa, Putin will support those even.

o_O

We acquiesce to no-one's demands but our own.

Improve relations yes. Make mutually beneficial deals, yes. Total and utter submission? Hell naw.
the optics will have to be carefully managed, so important.

but sometimes you just have to accept defeat, or, a tactical withdrawal, if you will.

I don't care for face saving.

Amazing how you have suddenly concluded Iran is defeated, while most analysts are saying it ended 2016 considerably stronger than it started it.

We stood firm in the face of Bush, you think we'll retreat in front of some wacko like Trump? You really should be kidding.

well maybe you should, specially when someone many times powerful can easily knock your teeth out. Obama is history, gone forever, you're dealing with a completely new beast here.

I haven't concluded anything, in fact I agree with those analysts and am happy to see Iran join the international trade community and grow and prosper.

Bush was an idiot, Obama, a bit of a pushover and a bit too soft maybe, the new guy is nothing like either of those two.

btw, I don't mean to sound condescending or talk down to anyone but you're not going to be able to get away with your mullahs' insane rhetoric on Israel anymore, it has to stop.

Bush was a warmonger surrounded by madmen like John Bolton. They actually drew up a plan to take out the nuclear facilities, they gave up when they saw how difficult it would be.

Bush was worse.
