Did colonization ruin India's image?

If you need English to understand everything, that just show you are a product of English colonialism. Next time when you watch cricket, remember that its part of British invasion. Americans at least created baseball out of it.

Why is the Chinese name of China not a single word, why can't I see Zhong guo as single word.

Zhōnghuá Mínguó
Zhōnghuá Rénmín Gònghéguó

India's official name, our country's name Bharat at one place.

Bharat Ganrajya.

Columbus went out looking for India, not China..

He actually went out to look for a trade route to the east. So he was looking for both China and India. When he reached the islands, he thought he reached the East Indies, which is today's Indonesia. India was a geographical area that include not just today's India subcontinent but also East Indies island and the Malay peninsula as well. Another great example of how India was a geographical expression, not a country.

That is the difference in language. Not meaning.

India had far greater rule, civilization and and light before the Muslims/Mughals.
Mughals were next in terms of what India got under their rule.
British were least beneficial and most exploitative.

If you look at India today, its clear that Britain benefits India nation more so than the rest of the previous kingdoms and rulers combined. India is a country now because of Britain. India is united under Britain. Indian government is modeled after Britain. Cricket is British. India is now tie together under British railways and language.

Those kingdoms were united with India by Sardar Patel, not British. They already gave independence to princely states under the "Lapse of Paramountcy".

When talking ancient super powers, it's usually Rome of the West, and China of the east.

But there's not much talk for India for non history buffs or even history buffs.

Some might say there is no India, but country always change, Rome never rose again, and Chinese borders changed so many times, that who can say what is and isn't China other than a few core provinces.

Now it could be said that China is more important in terms of economy today and impact, but if we are honest, to the casual western we aren't' different at all, third world and all.

So why isn't India's history being discussed more? I think colonization has completely ruined India's image.

Bad time to have a civil war of Maratha and Mughal.

No problem with history or India's stature in history. It's just that you should have studied history more before posting such things.

That is a very flawed argument.
And many many members here have posted how for centuries India had been together under different dynasties. Britain only united India in modern times. In centuries past it was still united.

Had the british not constructed railways, the Indians would have done that themselves.
The British did not develop internet in India, does India not have internet today.
The british did not set up car manufacturing in India, does India not have car manufacturing today.

On the other hand, before the british came, India's GDP to world GDP ratio was multiple times higher. It is due to British that there was extreme poverty in India.

And frankly, in 2013, its ridiculous we are discussing what the British did or whether Britain united India or not.

I respectfully disagree, to say Britain united India is quite wrong. "India" was never a country, it was a geographical expression. Britain literally created India.

There were many kingdoms existing in Indian subcontinent. But this kingdoms do not represent India. Even with empires that encompasses today's India. Do the Mughals regard itself as successor of Mauryan or Gupta empire? Of course not.

Thanks for the correction. I was wrong and you are right.

Show me which historian agrees to that China was the greatest civilization. :cheesy:

Any comparative civilization history texts from any prominent university. Just to name a few.
Yale University : "The Way and the World: Science and Medicine in Early China.." Geoggrey Lloyd and Nathan Sivin
Documentary by National Geographic: "China was the master of technology in ancient time and only Roman empire was perhaps equal to its glory."

Now go cry and burn in jealousy :laughcry:

Nowhere it says China was the greatest civilization.

Winston Churchill said India is a geographical term. He knows about India, he was the founding father of India.

It seems you have a great admiration for your White Lord Winston Churchill.

That depends from kingdom to kingdom.
India however need not be politically united.
India was culturally united.

And now we are going in circles. I believe you and the other Chinese person are merely arguing for the sake of it.
Makes no difference in this day and age. Keep arguing.

We are not talking about culture. We are talking about India as a country was created by Britain in 1947.

Which country did Columbus try to find? :azn:

Columbus was looking to trade with the East. Which would include China, Japan, and the Indies. Which include Indian subcontinent and east Indies.

He thought he reached the islands of east indies, so he called them Indians.
