DF-5B

Probably designation for the MIRV variant. Having and upgrading missile like DF-5 tells that PRC still does not posses solid-fueled missile powerful enough to haul MIRV's to US mainland.

DF-41 would have been but it was cancelled some reason and replaced with single warhead DF-31A.

From the 1996 NASIC report leaked to Bill Gertz.
First, only the minimum number of changes would be allowed to the stage to get the job done. The system would not be needed for range extension since the missiles which would most likely use this system, the Mod CSS-4 and the DF-41, would have sufficient range already. The system would deploy three 470-kg Dong Feng 31 (DF-31) RVs. The system would not contain penetration aids (penaids).

According to Richard Fisher, the DF-5B is the MIRV variant capable of carrying 8 to 10 warheads.

“It is likely that a CSS-4 Mod 2 or DF-5 Mod 2 would be the same as the DF-5B, which was said to me in 2010 to be the multiple warhead version of the DF-5,” said Richard Fisher, a Chinese military affairs specialist.

“So it is possible that in just one month’s time the PLA has tested two new multiple warhead land-based ICBMs and one submarine launched SLBM that could eventually carry multiple warheads,” said Fisher, with the International Assessment and Strategy Center.

The 2012 China Report does does mention an “enhanced silo-based DF-5,” that could be a reference to the “DF-5B,” which in 2010 an Asian military source told the author was a new MIRV version of the DF-5. This missile may also be capable of lofting 8 to 10 warheads. A large, detailed order of battle for the PLA that was posted on Chinese web pages in early 2012 indicates that there may already be two brigades, or up to 24 deployed DF-5B missiles.

More BS as expected from Broccoli.

The DF-41 was tested on July 24, 2012.

Here is Bill Gertz's article.

How about DF-5B is actually a solid fuel ICBM?

DF-5B is using new liquid fuel process which do not require the long old pre launch refuelling process and can be ready to launch quickly. WHat makes DF-5B even more deadly is using liquid fuel propulsion that ignition can be control making their flying path unpredictable.
