Deployment of THAAD: News & Discussions

Time to stop giving SK preferential treatment. We are not going to stay quiet about this. They just make themselves a target.

When will China announce SK is a new target for their nukes?
They will be a target in our strategic planning. We are not going to directly tell them that. It is something they should already know.

I think US is making the strategically mistake, by do that, it will push China, Russia togheter to support NK as during the Korea war. The only victim will be SK. If China and Russia provide NK military aid, THAAD can be out of commission in the first minutes of war with long range artillery fire front NK soil.

I don't see that as bad new for China nor Russia, US can kiss it own wet dream to isolate NK

Reminds me of russia where they used to complaint of systems being placed by USA in countries surrrounding russia. After so many year passed, russia couldn't do a jack about it.

China is going to be new russia for USA. New kid to be bullied in the neighbourhood.

Like Chins doesn't openly support NK against SK and Japanese people. And yes who is going to destroy THAAD???

Perhaps you should see properly who the bully is in this case. It's clearly NK with the support of PRC. It's better to have some sort of umbrella than having nothing in a rain, hope you get my point.

They were a target already, so nothing new then.

Explain how South Korea doesn't benefit from this. Given their vulnerability to a North Korean missile strike this is exactly what they need.

No they aren't going to depend on North Korea's good will. Now they won't depend on China's for that matter.

China had ample opportunity to prevent this.

As for arm-twisting, don't make me laugh. South Korea had all the justification it needed, and existential threats like North Korea makes to South Korea weigh above economic concerns. North Korea took it too far and China was too indecisive (or just plain not on their side) for too long.

They'd rather have a defence against North Korea and be on China's shit list because China has far more to lose, and so will act more rationally than North Korea.

see above post.

N Korea Ballistic missiles target Japan not S Korea.
N Korea do not need Ballistic missiles to attack S Korea. S Korea is just next door.
The THAAD system will help protect Japan. Not S Korea.

By installing THAAD in S Korea, S Korea is allowing its territory to be used by US military to threaten S Korea's neighbor, China and Russia. A very unfriendly act. How will that work out. Go figure.

It also will give US military a stronger grip on S Korea. How will that help S Korea? Go figure.

The N Korea problem is mainly a problem between N Korea and US.
China's policy on N Korea is all about stability. US policy on N Korea is regime change.

why US complained and was ready to go war when USSR was deploying weapons in Cuba? If that was wrong then this deployment is also wrong.
Those were offensive weapons, as in they could annihilate US cities on their own. These are defensive, they cant annihilate Chinese cities on their own.

As expected, US threatens the lose cannon NK with missiles and already you're talking about China and supporting the Fat Tyrant. Then you will turn around and talk smack when we do nothing when he threatens the US with nukes. :coffee:

Paranoid much? Why would we attack a Global Economy like China, when we have no long term plans to replace it?

China gonna be new Russia :o:, one thing is sure that China is not a new India to take habit to portray itself as victim of China either NSG, Gwadar, CPEC or string pearl issues:rofl:. And sure we want to be bullied in our neighborhood so we can take that as excuse to be more assertive :azn:

Odd that China doesn't ever threaten NK. But the South with no nukes is seen as a huge threat...hmmmm.

THAAD won't help S.Korea due to the proximity of the two countries and sheer number of missile that N.Koreans possess, we all know that, THAAD only puts S.Korea in an extremely dangerous situation by making the country a target of 3 nuclear powers.

Wolf on sheep clothes, you think China and Russia are stupid? we sure know what US is up too with THAAD dispatched in SK, you can use thousand of false pretenses to force SK to accept THAAD but we wont buy that, just don't make the strategic miscalculation that China and Russia will take that as granted and do nothing, NK will be certainly a viable option to nullify THAAD deployment regardless if you call Kim Fat Tyriant , we certainly don't give a rat A$$ when our security is concerned. This like to say if we dispatch nukes in Cuba, why would we attack US?, a country what we earn billions of trade surplus. we wouldn't be able to find any such lovely customer on earth...LMAO

Wait...if it is useless against NK due to their missile strength...how could it be useful against China if China has better missile strength???

N Korea Ballistic missiles target Japan not S Korea.

North Korea has long threatened South Korea. South Korea has finally decided that the Chinese either can't or won't influence North Korea to change its threatening posture.
N Korea do not need Ballistic missiles to attack S Korea. S Korea is just next door.
The THAAD system will help protect Japan. Not S Korea.

They don't need it to attack South Korea in the same way the US doesn't need nukes to attack China, its still a threat that China has to consider, and likewise for South Korea, moreso given the existential nature of the threat and the outspoken nature of the North Korean government on its willingness to use them.

THAAD system will primarily protect South Korea from low numbers of ballistic missiles heading towards South Korea.

By installing THAAD in S Korea, S Korea is allowing its territory to be used by US military to threaten S Korea's neighbor, China and Russia. A very unfriendly act. How will that work out. Go figure.

If China had taken a harder public stance against North Korea and worked with Korea instead of against it on the issue then South Korea might have continued to consider China's stance. As of now its too little too late. You must see things from the Korean perspective, not the Chinese one. South Koreans aren't willing to lay their heads as North Korea continues to makes threats of nuclear destruction and continues to develop the weapons that can do so. They have to do something to ensure their security. I think they tried to work with China on the issue, but China either could not or would not reciprocate/compromise to the extent they desired.

It also will give US military a stronger grip on S Korea. How will that help S Korea? Go figure.

There is already a mutually agreed plan for the shift of wartime command to Korean high command. There is no hard date for it to occur, analyst thoughts are 2020 or later, but a plan to do so exists, so its clear the current state of affairs is mutually agreeable re: Korean peninsula wartime command.

The N Korea problem is mainly a problem between N Korea and US.

This is at odds with Korean peninsula history since the end of the Korean war.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/North_Korea–South_Korea_relations#Reconciliation_and_antagonism

As far as I know North Korea has never offered a peace treaty to South Korea aside from total capitulation and recognition of Kim sovereignty over the whole peninsula.

The US is obviously the greatest thorn in their side for this objective, yes, but to say this means North Korea only has problems with the US is disingenuous.

China's policy on N Korea is all about stability. US policy on N Korea is regime change.

Unfortunately North Korean 'stability' without a change in government means peninsular instability in the long run as modern history has shown

So then it sounds like China is stuck on the back of what they thought was a tamed dog but was in fact a wolf and they are trying to figure out how to get off without the wolf biting them, or otherwise make it tame again.

It does look like a sticky situation for China.

The existence of the Kim dynasty at this point seems to be a slow poison for Chinese geopolitical interests on the peninsula, but an implosion would be outright economically disastrous for everyone involved (least so being the US) +even before we talk about hard peninsular control.

Here is another example of why South Korea has to have its own BMD capability.
