Demise of Bangladesh cricket

.
To be honest cricket as a whole seem to be a dying sport. Zimbabwe gone, West Indies on death throes. SA and New Zealand are more into rugby than cricket which is more of a secondary thing for them.

Pakistan should move to other sports as the national pass-time.

Some members here have misconception that India was minor team in ODIs till late 90s.
It is not the case though India won the World Cup in 1983 and also won World Championship of Cricket in 1985. Winning both these World tournament was no joke. It did however nosedived a bit in late 1980s to mid 1990s as most of our greats/legends of 70s/80s era retired and we weren't able to replace them with players of similar calibre in time. By the late 1990s however situation again improved with arrival of several good players.

Indian early day 1 day cricket was hurt and grew really slowly because of Sunil Gavaskar.

He didnt like the format and really made a point of letting everyone know his feelings. In 1975 he sulked his way to 36 not out and batted for 60 overs trying to make a point of how this format was doomed to fail - how wrong was he? I find it hilarious now when he commentates suggesting someone isnt scoring fast enough etc.
For those cricketing fans - view the scorecard below and think how this would be taken in todays format!

Standard of cricket has gone down overall. Bangladesh haven't played very many good teams in order to improve.

West Indies - we all know they are just surviving as a cricketing nation due to past legacy. In a decade even that will be extinguished

South Africa - Nowhere close to what the immediate post-apartheid team was. Never will be.

Australia - Once a match against Australia was a guaranteed defeat and teams used to count their chances against other teams in the tournament. No more.

Pakistan - hasn't played much international cricket lately. A pity.

Sri Lanka - Could never repeat the magic from Jayasuriya / Aravinda D'Silva days.

That leaves only India, England and NZ among regular teams. You can't hone your skills playing infrequently against only 3 sides.

On the other hand soccer is fiercely competitive, that is why we see tiny countries like Croatia, Wales, Senegal etc getting better. League cricket is also important. If there was cross pollination between IPL, PSL, England County cricket etc, then players from smaller countries would get a better chance. For example, I would love to see Indian batsmen playing in PSL, Pakistani bowlers in IPL and more BD/SL players in both

Cricket is a dying sport, there are too many formats. I think test needs to be
scrapped.
