NEW DELHI: The capital's famous Aurangzeb Road, in the heart of Lutyens' bungalow zone, is set to be renamed to APJ Abdul Kalam Road, according to a report by Zee News. The report says the New Delhi Municipal Corporation, under which the road comes, has taken a decision to rename it.

Aurangzeb Road is said to be India's richest road where property prices are the highest in India.

In July, BJP Lok Sabha MP representing east Delhi Mahesh Girri had urged Prime Minister Narendra Modi that Aurangzeb Road in central Delhl be renamed after former President APJ Abdul Kalam who passed away recently.

He had said: "In my opinion, this will be a great way of preserving Dr Kalam's memories and legacy forever."

The road had been named after the Mughal emperor Abul Muzaffar Muhi-ud-Din Muhammad Aurangzeb, who ruled much of the subcontinent from July 31, 1658 to March 3, 1707.

Renaming Aurangzeb Road had been a long-standing demand of India's right-wing groups, who say the emperor was a "cruel" ruler.

Wow now its like Aurengzeb didn't exist

All those destroyed temples must be a myth

Aurengzeb will live on in the memories of all muslims of sub continent, as will Akbar, or Shah Jahan or Razia Sultana

Good or bad this is the cumulative history of the muslims of the Sub continent

He could be born in Assam, kashmir, bihar or Balochistan

He is part of the history of the muslims of the Sub continent, especially considering this is part of pre partition history

. . . .
There is no Muslim history ... there is History of subcontinent... Muslims are just a part of that history.

Of course their is a muslim specific history in the sub continent, the fact that is part of the greater sub continent history is neither here or there

. .
It seems motivated to increase the property prices even further up
