even naming a road in India becomes a topic of great debate and of course a lot of Pakistanis who never ever heard of that road before suddenly have an opinion, a moral and a jihad about it!

What you expect ? You share this topic on PDF and expect no opinion of Pakistani

.
as if naming your roads after some confuse secularist Muslims would improve the condition of roads/cities and will make them look better :D well its just symbolic..NO? Actual code names of these missiles are hatf 5 and hatf 7 and hatf here referred to sword of Prophet Muhammad(PBUH)

You Indians also need to differentiate between invaders and rulers after leaving your bias aside.

What do you mean by ' confused secular muslims ' ? Do you mean that a muslim can never be secular ? If so,I guess the fears of European right wing parties on the refugee issue is justified.

Hitler too was a ruler,dear.

This renaming has got sagarika's Secular panties in a twist

After Aurangzeb, who?

We are streets ahead in roadside symbolism

The streets of Delhi may be chowk-a-block with politics but surely the despotism of 17th century Aurangzeb can’t be erased by wiping his name off a street in 21st century Delhi. Why are we fighting a 300 year war? How far back down the historical highway will we go to vanquish the past? Shall we rename Krishna Menon Marg, because the then defence minister was held by many to be responsible for the defeat of 1962? History remains history, however hard we try and make it a tool for every day politics. Re-naming roads is only sadak chaap politics.

Since Aurangzeb is now a key player in the ‘communal’ versus ‘secular’ divide, no wonder the Shiv Sena’s demand to rename Aurangabad as Sambaji Nagar has acquired new zeal. Perhaps we should also think about renaming the Taj Mahal since Shah Jahan is supposed to have plotted to murder his own brother. Ahmedabad is on re-naming list too, but Karnavati just doesn’t seem to cut it. Is it not a “national shame” that we accepted a Curzon Road, a monument to the divider of Bengal? Ah the sheer perfidy of Ho Chi Minh Sarani in Kolkata in the era of market economics and globalisation!

Non-alignment is dead but the traffic in Delhi is non-aligned to any rules and regulations. That’s why we have Gamal Abdel Nasser Marg and Josip Broz Tito Marg to remind us to be non-aligned while driving in Delhi. The futility of re-naming is seen in the fact that Congress may have re-christened Delhi’s famous central circle as Rajiv Chowk but every resident still knows it as Connaught Place. There are different ways to make a Marg in Delhi than to be streets ahead in sycophancy. A P J Abdul Kalam was a beloved president but would he really see re-naming roads as a way to ignite minds?

Apart from the road to fame, airports put politicians up in the air. From Delhi’s Indira Gandhi International Airport, to Hyderabad’s Rajiv Gandhi International Airport, we see that Ajit Singh’s Lok Dal has violated the Samajwadi Party’s airspace. Lucknow airport is called Chaudhary Charan Singh International Airport, Mulayam is grounded. The next generation may see a Mamata Banerjee airport and a Jayalalithaapuram. But re-naming roads will not make politicians immortal.

Almost every city has a Mahatma Gandhi road but the Mahatma didn’t acquire his saintly halo only for his legatees to reduce him to raaste ke vaaste.

It was a Pakistani who first demanded renaming Aurangzeb Road | Zee News

New Delhi: Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS), Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP) or the Bajrang Dal had no role to play in the renaming of Aurangzeb Road as APJ Abdul Kalam Road in New Delhi.

The idea came from a journalist of Pakistan-origin.

According to an article published in RSS' mouthpiece 'Organiser', Pakistani scribe Tariq Fateh, who now resides in Canada, had toured India in 2013 and was shocked to see a road named after Mughal emperor Aurangzeb.

Fateh had then appealed to the Indian Muslims to contemplate on changing the name of the Aurangzeb Road.

He wanted the road to be named as Dara Shikoh, the brother of Aurangzeb.

The `Organiser` reports that after the death of Kalam, Fateh on his Twitter account appealed to rename Aurangzeb Road to APJ Abdul Kalam Road.

Following this, a BJP MP from Delhi appealed to Prime Minister Narendra Modi to change the name of Aurangzeb Road to APJ Abdul Kalam Road, in the late former president's honour.

Happy that now I am living on Abdul Kalam Road: Venkaiah Naidu | Zee News
Last Updated: Sunday, September 13, 2015 - 19:04

Hyderabad: The suggestion for renaming Delhi's Aurangzeb Road after APJ Abdul Kalam had not come from VHP or Bajrang Dal, but from a Pakistan-born Muslim journalist, Union Minister M Venkaiah Naidu said on Sunday and added that he no longer felt "shy" while giving his address.

The Parliamentary Affairs Minister said earlier he used to feel shy when he had to give address of his residence (in Delhi) as- 30 Aurangzeb Road.

"One road in Delhi was named after a great son, an inspirational man from Rameswaram- APJ Abdul Kalam. There was so much of furore, and so much criticism and all, as if it was named after a foreigner," he said while speaking after releasing a book titled 'The Chronology of Ancient India-Victim of concoctions and distortions', penned by Vedveer Arya.

"But you will be surprised to know, the truth should also be known that the suggestion to change Delhi's Aurangzeb Road to Abdul Kalam Marg came not from a Hindu, or an Indian, nor from VHP or Bajrang Dal. But from a non-Bharatiya... He is a Muslim...Tariq Fateh, born in Pakistan and who is now settled in Canada and works as a journalist," Naidu said.

"When he (Tariq Fateh) visited India for the first time in 2013, he was shocked to see the name of Aurangzeb adorn one of the most majestic streets of capital of Bharat (India). It is he who had appealed the Indian Muslims to take the initiative in demanding to change the name of the Aurangzeb Road to be named as Dara Shikoh, the brother of Aurangzeb," the Minister said.

"...I also used to feel little shy when I had to give my address...I had to say I am living in 30 Aurangzeb Road. But now I am happy because now I am living in 30 Abdul Kalam Road," Naidu said.

On August 28, the New Delhi Municipal Council (NDMC) gave its nod to remane Aurangzeb Road in Lutyen's Delhi as APJ Abdul Kalam Road.

Naidu further said it is not the question of Muslim or Hindu.

"There are many Muslim rulers who have also done good to the country. History is very clear about it. All Muslims who have chosen not to go to Pakistan but decided to be in India..They are all Indians and they are equal citizens and they have got equal rights," he said.

"When we talk of Hindutava...Hindu is a cultural identity of nation. I told the Parliament also. Hindu is not a narrow religious bigotic concept, it is a broader cultural identity of this nation," he added.

"People have got every right to preach and practise

whatever religion they want and that has been the great tradition of this Hindustan", he added.

"You have seen what happened in Pakistan and Bangladesh and other countries also. This land, this water, this air, this civilisation, this culture has got something unique "sarve jana sukhino bhavanthu". This is the greatness of this land and we have to remember the past always and move towards future," Naidu said.

Taking a dig at media, the Union Minister said recently there was more focus by some TV channels on Yakub Memon than Abdul Kalam (for his last rites).

"Unfortunately in this country it has become a fashion for some people to degrade India and degrade Hindu. Some of them are influenced by Western thinking and some of them are influenced by the Leftist thinking and now most of them are inspired by vote-bank politics," he asserted.

"I am astonished...Sometimes I feel very sick, what is happening to this country. Some of these people are well entrenched in various sections of the media and also in communication sector and give such wonderful ideas," Naidu added.
