Delhi University cut-offs reach record high; 100% needed for B Com

It was the same in Mumbai when I was in Grade 10/12, the cut off's for science programs were reaching ridiculous proportions. It's like you have to be either a computer or a genius to get into these programs or settle for a not so great college.

Anyways I think the solution to this problem is to 1) Increase the number of seats ( obvious as the population is increasing) and 2) make exams tougher. Right now it is not very difficult to score high grades with just memorizing. Instead India should adopt the system which we have here in Canada/US, where your overall grade is dependent on tests/quizes/assignments/exams spread throughout the year and not just the final exam.

Here in Pakistan admission criteria is like 25 % board exam and 75 % entry test. So you have a chance

And in some its 40% board and 60% entry test. So if you dont get good marks in board exams you are almost out of such unis

Here in India there are two types of colleges.

1. Board marks based colleges/universities like Delhi University. Here you have to score really good marks in board exams to get admission. Like say 90% or something.

2. Entrance exam based colleges like IIT's etc. Generally most of the Engineering colleges belong to this category. Here you can bring the minimum passing marks in board like 55% and yet get into the best of engineering colleges in India by taking the entrance test and scoring well. I, for example, had scored only 70% in board exams but then I cleared an entrance exam and got a pretty decent rank of 270 out of 35000 students and got into a pretty reputed engineering college.

That is a sad story yaar! I scored 96 during college final year, after that with much more preparation I got 96.5 percentile!! And got a call from second tier IIM. It was much better in GMAT, without any preparation I scored 730 and I have mentioned it here seeking help for studying abroad. Actually GMAT is quite easy compared to CAT.

I have lost faith in CAT/me! .... For last one year trying for IPS/IAS! There are lots of pressures regarding job as well. Will see CAT this year after the UPSC main exam is over .... this will be the last time, either ISB, MDI, IIFT or straight journey to Europe or US. Let see I crack CAT or it cracks me!

Actually I did not tried for these three schools they are quite good.

Getting into top indian institutes is tougher than compared to others like us etc.
getting into ivy league is much easier than gettin in iits and iims

500% agreed! In GMAT quantitative and DS are quite easy while verbal is moderate but CAT will make anyone mad!

What a joke 99% discrimination against other students who may not be genius but education and higher education shoudl be for all talanted youths not just the super genius , as you can`t build a economy by super genius peopel only who read books and sit behind a book all day

look, you dont need to pay huge amounts of money to study in state universities. Government pays the bulk of it. Due to this, there is a huge push/demand for these govt seats. Now, kids are scoring much higher than they used to, which makes the selection process much more harder.

They changed it this year. Now except IIT's all other colleges/varsities give 50% weightage to class 12 results and 50% to entrance exam score.

Wow, after reading this thread, I feel really...dumb. I just graduated with a b comm. in Canada and at no point did I pull off marks of that sort. Having completed my degree, if I were to retake all the courses, I stttill wouldnt get marks that high...and I thought I was intelligent.

In India, There are 10,000 Colleges and Universities. 100 comes in Super A Category (World Class), Then some 1,000 Good A Category.....Then Above Average, Average and Below Average. Most talented or i say those who get 95%+ or who clear the entrance exams goes of Top Universities like IIM,IIT, etc. to Top Level Universities and so on. There are many good private universities where anyone can take admission. But it's costly. Not everyone can afford. Those who has money but didn't got best of marks. Can go to those colleges.

It's same like, everyone can't study in Cambridge and Oxford. But it doesn't mean One can't study in good college and earn success in Life. It's never the criteria. But if you Study in Top Class university, you will get some Great Job with excellent salary once you complete your study.

This video will hurt every Indians who pays taxes! This IITs are built to make the best for foreign companies specially US companies!

Govt should have a bond paper that all the IItians must work in India or for Indian companies.
