Delhi University cut-offs reach record high; 100% needed for B Com

Can someone explain how students get admission in different universities in India??? It looks like it is totally based on board exams. Can a university conduct entry test???

I can tell you mainly about Engineering entrance exams.

There is the JEE(Joint Entrance Examination),for entrance into the IITs(Indian Institue of Technology). It is one of the toughest exams for Engineering courses.then comes the AIEEE(All India Engineering Entrance Examination),meant mainly for admission in to the NITs(National Institute of Technology).Apart from that there are CETs(Common Entrance test) organized by every state for the state-run Institutes. There are many such good Institutes. Some Institutes prefer to conduct their own Entrance Exams like BITS(Birla Intitute of Technology and Science).

Kapil Sibal, the HRD Minister is trying to bring all these medical and engineering exams under one umbrella, a common platform. It has its own pros and cons.

So like Pakistan if students in India dont perform good in board exams can they still enter a good university??????? what are the chances?????

Delhi university is just Hype nothing more. I have been there and believe me beside B.Com in few colleges there is nothing to be admired. Science courses are in bad shape. Administration just try to make sure that State Board students(from Rajasthan Board, UP Board etc.) stay out of DU. I will rank 'University of Madrass' 'Mumbai University' and 'Banaras Hindu University' much above DU in term of science and Arts courses

yeah you can but u need to score at least 50 in boards but when going for jobs companies prefer 60 to 80 percent in boards to even let the candidate sit in placement exams.

But alas as everyone gets a chance here to be engg. There is saying if you throw a stone here in delhi there is high probability that it will either hit a dog or a engg....

'Coz that's where the money is :)

Seriously though, you can't expect children to decide their futures after class 10. You don't want them to get stuck with the wrong choice. They should have the freedom to pursue the course that they want.

PS: I might be personally biased, because I did an MBA after Engineering ;)

Even then I think getting admission into IIT's have become easier than before.

yeah easier from the time i come from.....

Yes..and even scoring in Board exams have also got very easy..
There was a time in Bihar when students used to top atleast district when they scored ~70% in Matric and first div. students were considered meritorious.. And now a days kids are scoring 75% at will.. Same with CBSE ...This year my dumb nephew scored 97% in 10 board..
