Deal on US military aid package to Israel 'soon,' diplomatic officials say

Protracted negotiations between the US and Israel over a new 10-year aid package are heading for a conclusion, as diplomatic officials said Thursday that acting National Security Council head Yaakov Nagel was making progress on the matter in talks being held in Washington.

Nagel began talks to conclude the deal, known as the Memorandum of Understanding MoU), on Monday. He was accompanied by Maj.-Gen. Amikam Norkin, head of the IDF's Planning Directorate.

The Israeli delegation met with National Security Adviser Susan Rice and top Middle East staffer on the NSC, Yael Lampert.

According to diplomatic officials in Jerusalem, “the US and Israel hope to reach an agreement soon.”

The new MoU will replace the existing 10-year, $30 billion framework set to expire in October, 2017.

The new deal is expected to be worth $38 billion over the next decade, but this sum will also include supplemental aid for missile defense that was not included in the previous agreement, and averaged about $400 million a year.

In addition, while the existing deal allows Israel to convert 26% of the funds into shekels for procurement in Israel, the deal under negotiation now is expected to phase that out, with Israel expected to gradually be required use all the money on purchases inside the US – something expected to have a negative impact on Israel's defense industries.

38 billion is a huge figure.

US should now channel their military aid to countries like israel who need it more than anyone else, instead of spending them on the countries who themselves are trouble maker for the world.

they want to cutt of the 800 milion that we can invest in our industry they effriad from contest i read it in walla the usa goverment say that the main reason that we develop with the money weapons and than compete there companies

could buy atleast 200 of them, also assuming the price of the F-35A keeps failing for like $98 million to $85 million by 2019

33 for now, but in the next 5 years I see Israel placing a giant order to start replacing F-15 and F-16s on a 1 for 1 basis.

Israel is planning to buy around 40 more B model in the near future.
As for the F15, I have no idea which aircraft will replace those ageing aircrafts
