The current situation at the Line of Actual Control (LAC) has arisen due to the disregard of written agreements by China not to mass soldiers at the border, External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar said on Saturday.

Speaking at a joint press conference along with his Australian counterpart Marise Payne, Jaishankar said when a large country disregards written commitments, it's an issue of legitimate concern for the entire international community.

The minister made the comments in response to a question on the eastern Ladakh border standoff between the Indian and Chinese militaries.

When asked whether the India-China border standoff issue came up for discussion during the Quad Foreign ministers' meeting here on Friday, Jaishankar replied, “Yes”.

"Yes, we (Quad) had a discussion on India-China relations because it was part of how we briefed each other about what was happening in our neighbourhood. And it's an issue in which a lot of countries legitimately take interest, particularly if they are from the Indo-Pacific region,” he said.

The situation at the LAC has arisen due to the disregard by China in 2020 of written agreements with India not to mass forces at the border, he said.

"So, when a large country disregards written commitments, I think it's an issue of legitimate concern for the entire international community," he added.

The agreement signed by China and India in Moscow in September 2020 is a temporary agreement with a one-year limitation. It's February 2022. Indians should be honest.
He is not talking about 2020 agreement. He is saying situation between the 2 countries in 2020 is due to previous agreements which China has violated. Setting a very dangerous precedent of written agreements losing value and the signers losing credibility.

1, In 2020, India has be the first to assemble troops, not China.

2, Countries around the world have enough judgment on whether China complies with the written agreement, India's opinion is not important.
The framework of world order after WW II is based on the written agreement of P5, including China.

Jaishankar's claims are no more than a pack of lies aimed at distorting historic facts. The current situation that Indians find themselves in now is the direct result of their expansionist policies relentlessly followed by India since 1947. Their primary goal of undoing the partition of 1947 and bring all of the subcontinent under a pure Hindu rule (in the form of Akhund Bharat) has been in play since 1947. Indians have in past blatantly occupied many autonomous states and annexed them into Indian union by military means. Changing the status of UN-recognized disputed state of Indian occupied J&K (against related UN resolutions and all written international agreements) in a unilateral action by revoking the special status of the occupied state (even a clear violation of India's own constitution) was a reflection of that Indian expansionist policy. And that blatantly uniliteral Indian action to annex a disputed region into Indian union was not acceptable to both Pakistan and China. Indian bellicose and defiance to logic and international law has no peaceful cure. It has to be reversed by force. Indians see the writing on the wall and that’s why they have started crying even before any tangible action against illegal Indian move has been taken.

Lies by Indian foreign minister are aimed at misleading world community and fooling Indian masses. But it'll certainly not help them. Fanatic Hindu extremists have bitten much more than they could chew and that will dearly cost them. It's time to not only reverse the illegal Indian action of 5 August 2019 by force but also finish this dispute by ending illegal Indian occupation of the whole state of J&K.

UN resolution gave Kashmirs legitimate rights to have referendum.
India is member of UN, so India should abide the UN resolution.

Pakistan will accept Kashmirs referendum result as long as it will be held righteously

What?! Indians amassed over 400,000 troops at this border.

What document is he referring to. Let the indians present it first and show us where China violated agreements before we go further.

As usual with indians they are distorting facts and events and misrepresenting everything just to achieve a low level propaganda for bhakts. They will not give evidence and will not point out any details so their bullshit lies won't be exposed or questioned. What exactly did China violate? Which line where? fcking indots.

India has more than ten times the number of troops in this region.

China recently has reinforced it constantly because it realizes how few military assets are in this part of China and with this border dispute, it is better to reinforce them than to do nothing.

very arrogant reply. Not becoming of a peacefully emerging superpower.

I have to strenuously disagree with your assertions.
India has always been the biggest proponent of peace in the world.
Kashmiris are with India and their is no referendum to prove otherwise.
I am sure the Chinese will eventually see the follies of their way and revert to peaceful coexistence as per the panchsheel agreement.
