NEW DELHI: The United Nations has set up a board of inquiry to probe the incident of firing on a CRPF camp in Liberia allegedly by a Pakistani Army officer on June 8. One civilian was seriously injured in the incident.

"There was some damage to property. Fortunately, no injuries were sustained by any of our personnel. UN has begun investigation into the matter and a board of inquiry has been set up," a statement released by CRPF on Tuesday said. The incident took place in Zwedru, the capital of Grand Gedeh County, one of the 15 counties in the West African country of Liberia.

Referring to the preliminary report sent to India, an official here said it appeared that the Pakistani officer, Lieutenant Murad who left his rifle at the spot after indiscriminate firing, was mentally unstable. "We are, however, waiting for the final report," he said.

The incident happened when constables Jeet Singh and Kaptan Singh were manning the sentry post made of mud and bamboo. "Suddenly there was indiscriminate firing from outside the camp. The firing ended after a while. On checking, we found a civilian severely injured and admitted him to hospital. We also found one rifle, three magazines, 32 rounds and 20 empty cases in front of the camp," the official said.

An initial inquiry conducted by the Regional Commandant, UN Mission in Liberia, found that the G3 rifle was issued to the Pakistani officer who belonged to a Pakistan battalion also posted in Zwedru.

Meanwhile, in a separate and unrelated incident, a constable posted in the town of Monrovia in Liberia, where also an Indian Formed Police Unit (FPU) is stationed, died in an accident.

Lets not jump to conclusions the weapon could have been stolen or someone could have been trying to frame the officer, I find the act of leaving an important clue say......THE WEAPON USED IN THE MURDER to be extremely stupid thing to do, such an act could either be done on purpose(If trying to frame someone) or out of shear stupidity. However, if the officer is guilty then he should be held accountable for his actions.............

Yeah.. simple logics and facts dont get through you guys.
i am assuming the previous news that said one indian soldier died because of the firing amused you as it adds fuel to your hatred towards us.
But when the facts are coming out that we have nothing to do with the death of your soldier you feel like not replying.

dont agree with it.It was a peace mission..if there was any doubts on any kind of conflict, then our Govts. (both India and Pakistan) wpuldn't have send them.

they were not there to fight against each other,but as peace keeping units.

lets wait for the report to come..and then come to any conclusion.

Though a sad incident, I hope the two countries dont make a big issue out of it and let international law (whichever is applicable in this case) take its own course.

On a similar note, its painful to see that we cant forget our hate even when we are working for a common goal, peacekeeping in this case. I am curious to know if this is the first such incident involving PKF troops of India and Pakistan. I think the forces of the two countries did serve together earlier too. Probably Somalia and Congo.

It's a sad incident but a rare incident as well, action must be taken against the offender without causing relations between the two countries to worsen.

The initial report is incorrect, in confused the person who died in an accident with this incident.

Since this is under UN, the truth will come out and hopefully our Pakistani friends will not come up with any conspiracy theories.

If proven gulity, this act by the PA person is a very serious matter and I hope PA will take strict disciplinary action against the errant officer so that the image of PA does not get tarnished.
