The Indians thought they were being clever, staging a photo op after shooting the grandfather dead and posing the child on his dead body and then showing security forces carrying the child etc to gain sympathy and direct anger against militants.

It backfired because of social media and the eyewitness accounts and accounts of relatives that exposed the massacre by Indian security forces for what it was.
