KARACHI:

Tata Nano, the world’s cheapest car, will be assembled and sold in Pakistan after business groups of Pakistan and India have completed initial talks to bring the car across the border.

IMGC Global chairman Shaikh Amjad Rashid told The Express Tribune that his group with an initial investment of $10 million will assemble the low-priced Nano in Pakistan amid coordination with Tata Group of India. It has been decided that an existing assembly plant will be used initially for assembling the 623cc car.
The group has received a letter of intent from Tata Group, said Rashid.

The price of the car in the local market is still to be decided. The car came to the streets of India in 2008 at Indian rupees 100,000.

Resumption of dialogue between the two countries has revitalised many joint investment plans and investors on both sides have increased their contacts, said Rashid. He said that Indian trade secretary Dr Rahul Khullar during his visit to Pakistan assured Pakistani investors that barriers in the way of joint investment projects will soon be removed. Dr Khullar also promised that Pakistani traders will be allowed to set up trade offices in India.

Pakistani and Indian businessmen are increasing their contacts after the start of secretary level composite dialogue for increasing trade between the two neighbouring countries. The dialogue is expected to pave the road for better bilateral trade as well as joint ventures.

According to Pakistani traders, after the removal of non-tariff barriers there will be vast opportunities for exporting cement, marble and textile products to India while Pakistan will be able to acquire low-cost technology

this is bullshitt, pakistan is not a market for third class indian products, better launch this product else where

toyota corolla XLi 1300 cc in pakistan costs you a massive 1.5 million ruppes after registration.still it has,

general tyres,
non-powered windows,
average interior,
and then we fit in cng and cheap metal strips on it (gari banwatay hain)

nano should be a success. a graduate engineer starts from 25 thousand on aaverage in paksitan. a doctor starts from 16, 000. they would love to have this car wwithin 3 years.

think rationally. buissness wise, we need cheap cars. we need to have malaysian proton and indian tata. we should end the false national paranoia. after all, the toyota and honda guys bribe our goverment for not regulating the car import and tax which is required for public benefit.

ps: indian car will be set free from dollar price bullshit from day one.

We need to expand our local car industry and create more jobs. India car manufacturers should not be allowed until we settle water disputes with India.

There is a lot of 'anti-Indianism' prevalent in Pakistan. It is not some kind of 30 min cable drama that you can enjoy behind closed doors and come out of the house to show your antipathy toward the enemy state. This will be very very tough for Tata. Not impossible, because Tata is capable of pulling off all the impossibilities.

Secondly, this car is smaller than cars in small car segment. Success of this car will depend on the need that comes in the form of narrow city lanes, and not fast highways. I don't know what the traffic is like there or city lanes in Pakistani towns are like in general, but I do know that the only factor in favor of Tata would be lack of affordable small cars. Given the small volume of lower middle class families in Pakistan, not many would prefer a Nano to an Alto, even if that were to cost 2 lakhs more.

Why Indian bikes? Until we close the Indian Terrorism Sponsoring Consulates in Islamabad, resolve the Indus Water Treaty issues and get the terrorists of Samjotha Express, no trade with India.

you are comparing toyota with tata nano?? hell of a WOW!!!!, tata nano wheels just look like a rickshaw wheels nano's engine can explode anytime, you never know, do you know why revo adams was a failure??, it look much bigger and spacious then suzuki alto

this car was only designed to cope with the poverty of indian people..
