Bangladesh national team cricketer Liton Kumar Das received numerous hate messages on Facebook after he posted a photo of the Durga idol yesterday and greeted his Facebook fans on the occasion of Puja.

A Facebook user, Md Metun, attacked Liton for his religious beliefs, saying “I told you not to post such religious things”.

Another user asked him to remove the photo citing that Islam does not allow idolatry and Bangladesh is inhabited mostly by Muslims. There were numerous other more abusive postings.

Das later deleted the post and put up a new status expressing how disheartened he was with the hate remarks.

“My first identity is that I am a Bangladeshi, and religion cannot divide us”, he said in his updated Facebook comment.

But it was all hate remarks. However, many of his fans responded with postings of their support for Das’ post.

Nahin Hasan Shaoun said, “In any Hindu festival the number of Muslims is more than the number of Hindus. We all enjoy the occasions together, but some people are ruining it for the rest of us by making these derogatory comments”.

With a new status today, Das once again faced similar fanatic backlash.

John D Sana wrote, “Liton, majority of the people in Bangladesh is Muslim and praying to idols is forbidden in Islam. You have hurt the Muslims by posting a photo of Durga on your Facebook account. So think of yourself as a Bangladeshi and not as a Hindu”.

To this, many of the fans retorted by condemning such postings.

@bongbang @Maira La @.... whats going on in BD??? as you were vocal about india....but it seems India is way better than BD in tolerance...people get insulted by a PIC????

The page is run by other admins not by him. These medias have no news now so highlighting these minor issues.

He expressed his puja greetings to all with Durga idol. One teenager suggested him not to share mythological, non scientific things. These religious nerds are very common online. There may have some tussle war started in retaliation. I didnt follow it. PDF is a great example. Hindus also spread similar religious sentiment. Is there any way to hold some one online? He could simply avoid that.

But in next post he said among 17 crore people in BD, there is no humanity among 17 thousand people. But he has to understand 1 comment doesnt reflect all. He/that admin shown immaturity. Deleting that post he later expressed sorry for that. This is it all about. Nothing big to make news.

Too many uneducated rural chaps getting internet access these days.
Still pretty benign compared to getting killed for eating beef.

They are coming here for job opportunities .That doesnt mean they are totally isolated or oppressed in their own nation.
But we cant say same about poor minorities .Right?

Shameful behavior by some BD people. But Indians post such hateful comments on different websites all the time. Check any Pakistan related comments section of Times of India. Most bigoted people on the face of earth are Indians. They should be the last to criticize BD.
