Special emissary: Fear of Afghan action prompted Achakzai’s trip
By Tahir Khan
Published: July 20, 2014

ISLAMABAD:
Leader of Pashtoonkhwa Milli Awami Party Mehmood Khan Achakzai revealed on Saturday that Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif had flown him to Kabul as his special emissary last month in the wake of credible information that the Afghan government was “likely to take some action against Pakistan”.

On June 19, the foreign ministry confirmed Achakzai’s Kabul sojourn amid speculation that the PkMAP leader was seeking Mullah Fazlullah’s extradition and eliciting its cooperation in Operation Zarb-e-Azb.

However, in an interview with BBC Pashto, Achakzai said, “The government received intelligence from very credible sources that Kabul is planning something against Pakistan.” He added, “The Pakistani leadership insisted that they do not want any misunderstanding or a dangerous situation between the two friendly countries.”

Achakzai said the government asked him to discuss the issue with President Hamid Karzai and the foreign secretary accompanied him on the trip. Achakzai had two meetings with the Afghan president, and the Pakistani foreign secretary and close aides to President Karzai were present at one meeting.

Achakzai did not discuss Karzai’s reaction to Pakistan’s concerns. Pakistan had shared the information of a possible ‘plan’ with ambassadors of the US, China and other countries, he added.

Achakzai said Kabul is mulling a response to the alleged cross-border attack by Pakistani forces that left three Afghan National Army soldiers dead in Kunar in June. President Karzai reportedly instructed his security forces to prepare for a response to the attacks, according to a statement issued in Kabul last month. :coffee:

Afghan foreign ministry spokesperson Ahmad Shakib Mustaghni had also claimed that Pakistani forces entered Dangam district in Kunar province in civilian clothes and attacked Afghan soldiers, a charge denied by Pakistan.

“If Pakistan and Afghanistan want to end terrorism, they will have to make a commitment that they will not shelter armed opponents in their respective countries,” said Achakzai, referring to Karzai’s claims that Islamabad supports Afghan Taliban. Discussing Operation Zarb-e-Azb, he said the operation was launched ‘in a hurry’ and no one had prior information. “The ill-planned operation uprooted hundreds of thousands of people when there was no settlement mechanism for the IDPs,” he said.

Achakzai questioned why many Uzbek, Arab, Chechen and militants from other countries entered Waziristan. “Who supplied dangerous weapons, food and other facilities to these foreign militants who have launched attacks on the GHQ and other sensitive installations?” he asked.

Nothing wrong , Afghanistan needs to be integrated into Pakistan as a next state
the sooner such folly takes place the better it is for regional security

Personally speaking, I think the merger of Afghanistan and Pakistan is inevitable. It's gonna take Afghanistan doing something stupid and staring a war with Pakistan to get them to either cooperate along the border, or join Pakistan, but for now, that's just a pipe-dream.

As for baseless Afghan allegations, what else is new? If they don't want to point to their own incompetence, they'll use their favorite boogyman Pakistan to scare their children, and rally their military so it doesn't collapse after the US withdrawal.

Well reviewing history and close ties between the region indicate that Afghanistan was rightfully was our lost state

For regional security , its Must that Afghanistan be properly assimilated into Pakistan , as only then we can close the chapter of chaos , and destruction in region that is caused due to the void we now know with various names.

Pakistan offers , institutes , police force , Advance Military and most of the people of Afghan province are already residents of Pakistan in some form or indirect trade.

Not to mention the pride of being member of United States of Pakistan being all protected under nuclear Umbarella

Afghanistan as an afghania province is "Logical" , and safe direction for security of Pakistan and residents of Afghania province

We must "CLOSE" the void of no power in Afghanistan by occupying it and integrating it into Pakistan , so that "Illegal" terrorist groups cannot live in that area now or for next 200 years

What the hell kind of military operation may be launched with a single person's ego and called off just as fast with one person's visit ?

I think the only thing Karzai retreated was a brain fart.

Nawaz chuttia should have let these coward afghans take some action if they dared and then allowing Pakistan army to give a befitting response. But hell no he is too chuttia to even make the comparison.

P.S what a visionary leader we have who considers an Afghanistan with ANA and Karazi to be a friendly country. Sadaka jaoon aisa leader per.

We have a traitors political party in Pakistan called ANP & they need to be dealt with before they harm Pakistan.

Current rented Afghanis are Pakistan's enemy & a threat to Pakistan on western border. Afghanis have supported rented terrorists against Pakistan & they are still continuing to do so. The problem in Pakistan is, we have corrupt politicians & corrupt Govt. who cannot defend Pakistan in any front. First PPP harmed Pakistan & destroyed Pakistan's image world wide, now PML-N is doing the rest.

I seriously hope not. There's nothing that we gain from that.

Karzai threatened to stop the supply of donkeys to Raiwind after demand hiked in Palestine for their use in bombing runs against Israel.

All options on table against Pakistani shelling did not stop

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Afghanistan said Monday that all options are on table to put an end in cross-border shelling from the other side of Durand Line.

Ahmad Shekib Mostaghni, spokesman for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Afghanistan told reporters that the responsibility of the Foreign Ministry is to resolve the issue through dialogue and diplomatic means.

Mostaghni furhter added that other options are also on table to put an end to cross-border shelling.

He said the government of Afghanistan will take decision regarding the other options in an appropriate time and when needed to resolve the issue.

The Pakistani military has been shelling eastern Kunar and other provinces located near the Durand Line during the recent years.

Pakistan had intensified cross-border shelling in eastern Kunar province of Afghanistan during the months of May and June.

The Pakistani air force also carried out an airstrike in Kunar province late in May which sparked furor among the Afghan officials.

A 10-year-old girl was injured in the latest wave of cross-border shelling in Dangam district of Kunar province later last week.

Around 60 rockets were also fired in different parts of Kunar province on Tuesday while ten rockets were fired on Thursday night.

Stupidity finds no bounds in PDF. Afghanistan is a sovereign state and should be allowed to peacefully exist and prosper as a stable independent Afghanistan is much better suited in for Pakistan than a burning and unstable "annexed" Afghanistan.

After Soviet withdrawal, Pakistan and other parties who helped in fighting against Soviets should have worked on getting a confederation established between Afghanistan and Pakistan.

Now either it is too late or maybe the same mistake is being being repeated.
